brought up from South and Central America IIRC by the Confederate Air Force in the '60s.

We were at the Air Museum at Dayton, Ohio years ago, as a side trip from coming home from the Mopar Nationals at Columbus. Among all the other incredible displays to see, they had a Messerschmitt 109 sitting beside a P-47. It looked like the Jug had had a baby! The 109 looked so small and frail by comparison.

The 109 is definatly a small aircraft compared to the Thunderbolt. You can spend days at The Air Force Museum going thru the four buildings.

I definitely agree that a person could spend days in there. Unfortunately, we were only able to spend the afternoon seeing things in the main building. I think there were four cars coming home in our convoy, and all our wives figured that this would be pretty boring for them. They quickly changed their minds. All the kids really enjoyed it.

It was engineered to run on Molson's Canadian rather than regular jet fuel. It was too expensive to operate, so it was cancelled. Also rumoured that some enterprising pilots had devised a way to put a drinking tube into the fuel tank!
Come-on Dave, it was the ground crew who engingeered & made the "HYDRATION" system for the pilots!! Give props where they are do!!

Everything looked small next to a P-47. :)
