The last Lockheed Constellation series was the L-1649 Starliner, which was supposed to be built with Pratt & Whitney turboprops. Those engines never reached production and so were built with Wright 3350 turbo-compound engines instead. They had a completely new wing design compared to the previous Super Constellations, and the engines were further out to make the cabin quieter. With a 6500 mile range, they could fly from California to Europe non-stop.

But there were some turboprop L-1249 versions built, at least four of them went to the Navy and air force, scooting along at a maximum of 479 mph. with their 5,000 hp. engines.

Another weird design (Heinkel Lerche) that came too late to be of any help. But the Germans never got past the design stage; the Russians built one with captured plans. If that photo was the Russian version (as some sites claim), why the German cross on it? It was designed for 500 mph. level flight.
