My father told me about flights of brand new B17's flying over his childhood home in Portland Or. from boeing field on their way to war......

He joined the Marines at the end of WWII and was on the Escort Carrier Bairoko as a mechanic ( PFC) working on F4 Corsairs.....
He said the jets would come along and do barrel rolls around the Corsairs while in flight, making them look very slow...... A Major came along and caught him sleeping on a corsairs wing ( which I have read was a very comfortable spot to catch some ZZZZZ's due to the shape of the gull wing)...... He was demoted to private and received Captains Mast.... He must of got it back because his Honorable discharge says PFC.......

A picture taken during the war or modern picture of the Corsair painted for the period? I know the insignia with the red border was only used for a short time during the war.
