Some military historians rank the Hellcat with the most kills of any US aircraft series in WWII. Many others say the Mustang had more kills so it may be a comparison that depends on the details/criteria. In any case the F6F with its 19:1 kill ratio was certainly in the hierarchy of great allied fighter aircraft in the war.

The F4F is the Wildcat then came the F6F Hellcat which performed better against the Zero's.

Hell, I didn’t fully engage my brain. Yes, the F6F was the Hellcat and not the Wildcat. I’ve only known that for about 60 years now. No excuse. Corrected above.

AT-6 "Texan". We called them "Harvard" in Canada. Trainers in Canada were often named after colleges/universities, and were painted bright yellow. There is an association that restores and flies them out of nearby Tillsonburg, Ontario Airport. The association also owns a "Yale"; much like a "Harvard", but with smaller engine and fixed landing gear. They also have an annual fall Wings and Wheels car show at the airport, where attendees can buy rides in the Harvards. Last year was a beautiful September day with 500 cars there.

Hans-Ulrich Rudel was shot down 30 times during his 2,530 missions. He destroyed one battleship, one cruiser, one destroyer, 70 landing craft, 800 vehicles, 150 gun positions, 519 tanks and nine aircraft.
