Saturday, Oct. 9th 1999. Final flight, the last time a Blackbird ever flew. This was a show at the Edwards Air Force Base, it was scheduled to fly again the next day but a fuel leak problem prevented that.

Seen here on its final approach, the SR-71 is dumping fuel (you can see the vapor trail) to reduce weight for landing.

What it looked like in the aircraft boneyard, but a F-4 Phantom.

This F-4J Phantom was painted glossy black to see if that would make it less visible during night flights, while the bunny on the tail was added as comic tribute to Hugh Hefner, whose own custom-built DC-9 sported a similar paint job.

That Arado 234 would have been deadly....if they could have gotten production up to where they wanted it. The world's first operational jet bomber.
