Who's got CO detectors

Thanks for the reminder RC.
Each New Years day I replace the batteries in both the 2 CO detectors and 4 smoke alarms.

CO2 and or Smoke modules can be tied in.
I tied these modules into a 120v relay that is tied into a Shunt Trip Main Circuit Breaker in my sub panel that contains the branch circuits for my oil burner, washer/ dryer, central A/C and attic exhaust fan.
So if there’s a CO2 or Smoke Alarm, the sun panels main breaker will trip, hopefully eliminating or slowing down the cause of said alarms contributing factor. Dumping the attic fan will slow down a fire instead of feeding it fresh air.

Pictured is a 2 pole Shunt Trip Breaker. The “third” pole is a trip mechanism.

Meanwhile, the shunt trip breaker wiring comprises two wires. One connected to the ground, and another to a control system. The control system can be connected to a sensor or to a manual switch. When activated, the shunt trip accessory will cause the main breaker to trip.

For example, if you install a shunt trip with a smoke detector, it will activate and cut off the power should the smoke sensor trigger. It can also be installed with a remote switch, allowing you to trip your breaker manually

I feed the C02/ Smoke Detectors from my main panel as to not have them electrically disconnected if and when the shunt trip breaker opens in the sub panel.

Another fact: CO detectors do not last forever. Their sensors wear out. A model with an LCD display will show an error, when it reaches end of life. A model without a display will give you a series of beeps, to let you know it's time to REPLACE the unit. Normally, (and I said normally, as with most Kidde models I'm familiar with) the sensor fails at the 7 year mark.

I just bought the 10year battery co2 fire alarm. c02 is heavier than air so lower would be better IMO.

That is sad, guess you have to ask if they have them when you rent. No reason for this to happen.
We just placed new combo CO/smoke detectors in the living room of each of our rental units last week and installed new batteries in all smoke detectors in the bedrooms. I'm not so diligent at home. I installed a 10-year battery in my living room smoke detector and I don't think it lasted 2 years. Of course it failed in the middle of the night as they always do. The problem is that it is 20 feet high, and to replace the battery I borrow my neighbor's orchard ladder, and my neighbor who owns it to climb and replace it. I get disoriented when I look up from any kind of height - a lingering symptom of a stroke a few years ago. So when the 10 year battery failed, I disabled the sum-bitch. I did solicit my neighbor's help and equipment instead of just shooting it down. This thread is a reminder that I need to remedy that situation. Thanks OP!

We had a camp on Pine River Pond in Wakefield NH when I was a kid, only about 30 minutes from where I live now. We had one CO detector in our house and I recently added one on the second floor so we now have two. Smoke detectors, CO detectors, fire extinguishers, baking soda, fire blankets should be in EVERY home. After having my Barracuda catch fire in the engine bay due to a fuel leak a few years back I now have a fire stick in the glove box, a container of baking soda and fire blanket in the trunk.

CO is actually ever so slightly lighter than air and distributes throughout the area fairly evenly.
I had to look it up.

Is CO2 Heavier Than oxygen?
Yes, when compared at the same temperature and pressure pure carbon dioxide is heavier than pure oxygen

Interesting, and to what safety purpose pertinent here?
Any examples in the news to share?
Or is this an indoor grow house concern?
I don't have any experience with them or have a need that I know of offhand. I just remember they came up in my searches and that they made them because I just replaced all of the Alarms/Detectors in my house the last few weeks since I heat my home with a wood fireplace insert and an oil burner for my hot water....
