Why BF Goodrich

If you look at the traction and treadwear specs the Cooper is a better tire than the T/A. Even the Master Craft Avenger RWL has better numbers.

FYI the Radial T/A line is now made by Coker Tire, and not Goodrich.

T/As were all the rage back in the 80's as stated earlier.

First it was goodyear eagles, but they were super premium priced.

I personally didn't care for eagles (and I worked at a goodyear for a while), I found the GT to have an odd compound that flaked off when hot, and wore out super fast and ST to be a much inferior tire to my favorite at the time Uniroyal Tiger Paw.

Try Hankook for RWL 16"

You can find the above mentioned brands in less then 1 min on ebay in all sorts of 14 and 15 inch sizes in RWL.

...and I also have a set of 14's with discolored lettering.

At first I thought it was because the blue protective wash stayed on too long, as the 15's I bought at the same time didn't have the issue, and I mounted them several months earlier.

Has anyone tried Westley's Bleach White on them? That was going to be my next move.

Why and when did everyone in the Mopar hobby start using BF Goodrich tires?? Everywhere you look there they are. Even my RR has them on it. Just curious.

From what I can see, only 2 companies are now producing Muscle Car (conventional, NOT low profile) tires
1. Cooper Cobra GTs
2. B. F. Goodrich

Then we have Coker tires ( a set of red lines on my SC/Rambler)

My Road Runner has BF Goodrich Radial TA tires that the previous owner put on the car. According to date codes they are 8 and 9 years old, and looking at the paper trail they have about 5K miles on them. They look like new with zero rot, cracking, etc. I do not dislike the tires, but realize at the age it is time to replace. So far I have driven the car about 500 miles this year and no speeds higher than 60MPH, but it is on my replace list soon.

I've always like Cooper Cobras. Had them on my Charger and was very happy as I even autocrossed that car on occasion. Most of my Mopar friends buy Cooper Cobras and are happy. I will replace my BF Goodrich with Cooper Cobras when the time comes.

I actually picked up that exact brochure off guy who sells vintage auto literature and the RR in the background is black walls out while the GTX has raised white letters.

back in the day those goodyear polyglas redlines were very dark; almost black at a distance.

I've always used their products.

Except when she was a roller or non driver had these old tires and wheels from a 79 dodge magnum on her because they were in better condition than what I had so I swapped them over before I sold the magnum in the early 90's.

My car also had the BFG T/A's on it when I bought it. Tread was like new, but about 10 years old. On the way back from the Farmington Minn. Mopar show 2 years ago, the RF tread started to separate. The vibration was so bad I could only maintain 55 MPH (on I 90/94). Made it home with a bulge in the tire the size of a baseball. I replaced them with the Cooper Cobras and couldn't be happier. No more BGF's for me.

I went with the Mickey Thompsons only because almose everyone else in the world runs BF Goodrich. The M/T's are a little less expensive too.

I found the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T RWL Radials to cost less money than the B.F. Goodrich T/A's, and the Mickey's also have a higher speed rating that the BFG's.

60mph? You need to let that girl run! Lol. Mine has been up to, well, excessive speeds to say the least.

My car had some dryrotted TAs when I bought it, sitting for 12 years will do that. I had one issue with the Cooper front tire, had a bulge where there was no belt in the sidewall right from the git go. Replaced and re mounted no charge. Coopers ride very nice.

We initially bought 16 inch wheels for the car. YOU CANNOT FIND 16 inch white letter tires. Only ones I could find were 14 and 15 Cooper Cobras or BF GoodWrench T/A Radials. I blew a brain cell out trying to find 16 inch white letter tires. There are only a few options to go by if you want white letter tires.

I think Coker Tire sells RWL tires larger than 15". Coker also makes/sells tires that resemble bias ply tires that are actually radials for a classic look. Sadly, they are limited to a few narrow sizes.

I just upsized the stock 14" on my 70 Satellite to 15" Rallye wheels. Put the Cooper Cobras on. Ride is great, looks good too. Plus, they were about $60 cheaper per tire than the BFG T/A's. Used that savings to buy an extra rim and tire for a spare !!

60mph? You need to let that girl run! Lol. Mine has been up to, well, excessive speeds to say the least.

I live in a town that really has no expressway, a small section of Interstate, and very bad roads. The 8 and 9 year old tires also curb my enthusiasm for any speed tests for now.

If anyone likes tall bias front runners, their silvertowns are awesome. Have them on my 64. Look cool and for bias they decent to drive on. Just don't turn! Haha

I've had BFG's in the past as I like the white letter look for some cars, I think that's why they are so common on the old school stuff...currently have Coopers and I like them a little better than the BFGs for a street tire. While the quick-stomp traction is probably close to the same on both, I feel the Coopers grip and ride a little better for the majority of street driving

I've heard that stuff works fine but I always just used some comet or ajax with a scrub sponge and they've always whitened right up...for road dirtyness at least

BFG's have nice smooth sidewalls.I prefer black side out. I have wondered why lots of tires these days have all kinds of designs and patterns. I look for the smoothest sidewalls(I.E. not allot of gingerbread). I bought some tires for the PT Cruiser beater that had big stars stripes and other designs(Thank goodness in black) on the sides.

My Cooper Cobras started to dry crack along the bead area after 2 years, maybe about 2000 miles on them.The car was kept inside,but Rubber anything don't last too long in the desert.

I did see that some places offer white letter decals.. Which I thought looked cheap. I did use a paint pen on an old tire that I had in the back yard. Took my time and colored in the letters.. Looked pretty damn decent. That tire has been sitting in the yard for 6 months and the letters are still as white as the day I did it. So in a pinch go to office depot and buy some white paint pens.

I think the "tire shine" crap is what turns the white letters dis colored. If I am judging at a car show, and see shiney tires with dis colored RWL , I will deduct points..............................MO
