It's the same reason I love doing concert sound - the constant challenge to do better. In this case, to do a better mix. Get the keys to sound just right, or get the drums to have just the right punch, or get every syllable out of the vocals.
To the original question - I also know plenty of women who love cars and guns (and motorcycles). And, who are just as good if not better than me, with any of them. It's not a gender thing. It's a societal thing.
