Why does Canada have a Maple syrup reserve in the first place?

Those "Newfie's" are good folks. When 2001, 9, 11 happened and all incoming flights to U.S. were grounded, about 60 airliners were routed to Gander, Nfld. The area housed, fed, and clothed about 6500 "guests" for a week before flights resumed. A stage play called, "Come From Away" was made about the incident. We went to Toronto to see it when it played there. It was very well done.

Newfie’s are freakin’ great folks! Always up for a good time. Their service in the Merchant Marine during WWII is the stuff of legend, and has only been recognized relatively recently. Most don’t realize that they’ve only been part of Canada since 1949. I’m lucky to have one example of every coin that they minted.
Back when Quebec wanted to separate I suggested that we bring all the Newfie’s onto the mainland and move Quebec onto the island... but the Newfie’s are too attached to their rock so it never worked out.

Maple syrup is nice. And that Alberta gold comes in handy. But man oh man you wouldn't believe where the real money is at!

It’s all about the Alberta Gold. It’s what keep Canada Running. Your province is one the biggest Equalization payment taker. We provide you with money to keep PEI going. We provide you with jobs when you come out here and work.

we need to stop helping you out. You do nothing for us. If you want to work in Alberta, we take 40% of your wage straight off the top as a deterrent.

Only from Vermont or Maine...
no imports

I don't really like pancakes or syrup that much either
I do like a good waffle, with my aunt's strawberry jam/preserves on it
or orange marbelaide (spell ?) once in a blue moon

give me a hearty breakfast with real food, not all carbs
bacon & eggs (maybe toast) or dr'd up scrambled eggs,
with onions peppers bacon potatoes, my dad use to call it eggytators

nowadays a toasted bagel, with sweet butter & a cup of Joe is just fine,
black & strong
no sugary sweet ****, carbs & all

So, is Quebec regarded as being something like one of our states as being the capitol of crime??

Not the crime...it's their general personality. I could never understand why Quebec folks have a bad reputation until I visited different parts of Quebec. They were ignorant towards people speaking English. They wouldn't even try to speak or understand my English.
They have towns/cities where no English is allowed on any public signs, even on your own store-front, menus, ect. They rely on billions of dollars from the rest of Canada to keep their lights on. They just rub off as greedy, better than thou, un-Canadian. Obviously its a generalization, lots of good folks in Quebec...starting with Nick from Nicks Garage!

Yeah? Well what about those F’in Newfies?

Generally they are liked just the moniker "newfie" sticks with them because they are happy go-lucky. They are very friendly people eh.

Where did that come from Donkey. Never mentioned any thing about Alberta. You sour?? I was talking about fresh water you. What were you reading any way? Some bitter! You have to chill. What would happen if you were born here?

And we all didn't vote for that ********!

Absolutely! I would be courteous with anyone not speaking English because that's the Canadian way. I would never show the impatient attitude I received in Quebec. The rest of Canada has to learn French in school but Quebec doesn't have to teach English. Bizarre.

Yup. Glad to meet you and attempt to communicate with you. Most out here are like that. Certainly no language police out here making sure that there is no French on our signs.
In fact my daughter is fully bilingual, went to a French speaking university. Was the top French speaking student in my territory one year and got the Premiers gold medal as a result. Yet her mother and I don’t speak French. We just supported her as best we could.

You are wrong. They teach english in Quebec french school.

Also heard so many times: I DON’T SPEAK FRENCH… from very rude people…from Ontario.

Glad to hear that.

Chargers at Brampton also. We've had two from there, both well made cars.
Chrysler 300's as well. I thought it funny when Chrysler recently ran an "Imported from Detroit" campaign. What, they didn't know where their own cars were coming from? I got one of the stickers and put it on driver's vent window of my 1967 R/T.

The syrup reserves stems from a more than a century of Canadian push to remove gold as global reserve currency and replace with maple syrup. Ok, I have no real evidence or historical facts to validate my opinion. But just thought I would throw more nonsense into the discussion? It's how we seem to roll in the 21st century? Just make up stuff and run with it?

The maple syrup producers in upstate New York used to tell me the darker syrup had been heated for too long... you know, it's burnt.

Maple syrup snobs?

I'm now in Georgia and maple syrup from places like Vermont, when I can find it, costs around $11 for a small glass bottle.
:mob:

There could be something to the overheated thing, but it doesn’t taste burned to me. Just stronger. I also heard it depends on if it’s early or late in the season, but I dunno.
The locals here make syrup from birch sap, but I don’t like it. Tastes bitter, to me at least.

Being that I’m from Maskachusetts, getting fresh New England made maple syrup isn’t a problem. I hate that fake man-made crap.
