Will it be sufficient?

if you have loads of parts to go with it maybe theres a little something i could use in exchange for loading it up so you could use a one way carrier if its not too far from me.

im not here to cut someone out, i alreddy have plenty of cars. prolly at your house.youre central tx. alvarado right

My father lives In San Angelo, Texas its about an hour south of Abilene and 4 hours north of San Antonio

Have you looked into renting a u-haaul truck with attached open car hauler trailer?

The trailer itself I know is only $100 one way.......that is what I am planning should I (ever) find a car......Uhaul will rent you one of their box trucks or vans setup to haul the trailer.....

If two-way is toop pricey , consider what the other poster said -- fly down and get the uhaul ssetup for one way.

Worse case scenario, I will have to do it that way....its just so damn expensive like that. Cheapest 1-wy air fare I can find is through Delta at $261. Then according to U-haul.com a 10' truck with a car trailer 1-way is going to be $1,109 ($862 for the truck and $242 for the trailer). Then if you figure gas at 7 MPG in the loaded truck and trailer at 1700 miles at probably $3 per gallon in May you are looking at another $840 in fuel and then you have to add 1 hotel stay at like $35 and food. So roughly $2500 to do it that way.

Now if someone up here had a truck and I borrowed Garys Trailer and that truck got say 10 MPG that would be just over $1000 in fuel for both ways. 2 hotel stays at $35 a piece totalling $70 and then maybe $300 in food for the trip. For a total of about $1400.

I just wish there was a fellow Mopar guy in the area that could come down. Like I said I have a few more months to get something worked out but worst case scenario Ill have to fly and get the uhaul stuff...just dont want to spend more than I have to.

Just pickin on ya dd.

74, seeing as how I'm on the road right now, I can tell you you aren't gonna find rooms for $35.......unless it says "BATES" on the sign out front.

lol....I dunno. The ones I've driven past didn't look that inviting.
BUT....if you get a bad room at a nice place (like I did the other night) then when you complain they'll do something about the cost. So my $70+ dollar room was had for 1/2 price.

(sing it) PRICE-LINE NEGOTIATOR:rolling:

I am not looking for a nice hotel, I am talking a room with a bed and a toilet just to get some rest before I hit the road again. I was thinking like a Motel 6 or some place where you pay by the hour. LOL

If I am taking the trip on my own, Ill avoid the hotel cost altogether and just sleep in the truck at a rest stop (Done this many times before).

What about if instead of flying down you got a one-way rental car---cheap econobox for like $40 a day....go as far as you can go the first day......stay at a cheap hotel place for $75...thats $120 or so total......then get the uhaul rig for the way back, go as far as you can go that day and stop at a cheap place again....

Thats gonna be your cheapest way of going...if you take a truck ...any truck..down that can do the trailer towing you will get killed on gas mileage......IMHO.

This is why I have resigned myself to not looking outside of a couple hundred miles of my home.....my biggest issue is you dont know what you will find when you get there...so unless its THE car of the century, extremely rare and youi have to have it or you know the car, etc, I dont think its worth it.

Unelss you are talkin gabout a $30k+ car...at that poitn you know it meets a certain level of quailty etc, or at least it should...me, I am in the $5-8k range....unfortunately, not a lot of "perfect cars" out there for that price.....seems like a lot of folks selling half-azzed conversion cars etc,.....and those you need to see in person before inesting money into it , even if that is just travel money.

<sigh> I wish money were no object....Cant wait til Obama sends me my bailout money! LOL:rolling:

Not so. Both of the Cummins I had got really good mileage towing. The mileage didn't drop pulling an empty OPEN trailer. With a loaded OPEN trailer I got about 16-17, down from about 21.

But whatever you do, DON'T use a Powerstroke for this. Their mileage sux.

Look into having a trustworthy independent transport it for you. You are going to save in the big picture (money & time - not to mention eliminating all the logistic headaches). These guys don't mind if there are extra parts as long as they are packaged well and secured in the vehicle. Some of them will even carry the parts in their vehicles. Although not highly advised to recommend Moparts here, there are some very reliable guys that transport there (look in the transportation section). Also, if you go to FABO, I recommended a transporting section for members. There is a stickie in the "Cars For Sale" section. Good luck.

x2

Best advice yet. I used a guy off of Moparts called "ModTop Transport" a few years ago, great guy, but I don't if he's still in business though. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE DAS ! Many, many horror stories with that company.

Another option is to fly down and rent a 24' box truck. A guy that runs a streetrod shop by me used to ship cars this way all the time. They usually have wooden floors, so you just nail some chocks down to keep the car from shifting. You can stuff all of you parts inside and it's secure for the overnite stays. As far as loading/unloading, you throw a couple of bucks to someone with a rollback on either end to get it in and out of the boxtruck.

rental truck

if i were you.. i would fly down there, rent a truck and trailer for a one-way rental and then drive back.

seems to be the cheapest if you ask me.

I'm a u-haul dealer and did a little figuring, don't know where in Texas you are going, but i figured Corpus just to be safe...10' truck and auto transporter with 9 days and 2204 mile allowance comes to about $980.00.
Not going that far? Then price reflects change...Someone CAN help you.
