windshield bloody hell

Thats a good idea. I know there is a collector like 30 miles form me who I think does his own work but getting the car to him or anyone without the windshield in it is the issue....
Can I can legally drive without it? Just use some glasses or goggles and drive it ? If so I'll drive it to him as is. Starts and runs fine without the dash..LOL I can bolt a seat in and install the seatbealts easy enough

Usually illegal, but thats because of safety concerns. If you wear say a motorcycle helmet or something with a full face I bet just about any cop would understand what you are doing. Though if you have the back window installed it may want to push it out with enough air flow. If you were near here i'd tow it over there for you.

That's not the fault of the insurer, but the owner. Insurance policies spell out clearly whats covered, and if people would bother to actually read them they would see their rates are based on the base value of the vehicle, and do not cover add on or specialty equipment unless you buy a seperate rider for it.

Instead, many owners just sign up for the insurance and assume everyhting is covered for their low, low, price. :(

Well to blow your theory out of the water... my new rate is lower than what I am paying at progressuck insurance and it would have covered the loss and have less deductable.. soooooo... yes its the insurance company not the rate you pay

Oh happy day !!

Drove the car to his shop with sunglasses on. Apparently Oregon has a wiper law not a windshield law..LOL

He even has the air grabber hood and all the workings for me when I'm ready.. wont be cheap but it's all original stuff... This was mopar heaven I'm telling you.. I've never seen such a collection except at a car show. He told me to come on back and he'll take me out in the hemi cars... all 4 speeds of course.. the 70 Charger RT was 100% original with the 440 stickers on the hood faded.. the hemi gtx was fully optioned as well..

Really sounds like you found a great guy! Play your cards right maybe you'll get to drive one of them. He certainly sounds like a cool guy.. And thats great with being able to get that air grabber hood and all the trimmings (so to speak ;) Man, we all should have a day like that once in awhile! My day consisted of spending more money on a part and gas, im still trying to figure out which is worse lol. Good to hear of your good fortune though, lol, having trouble sleeping tonight? Eh... You'll be dreaming MOPARS tonight buddy!! :)

Great news. Now aren't you glad you didn't sell when the frustration level was high?

Glad to hear good news. Told you to keep it. It all works out in the end.

I was right there while they did it for sure but it was/is couple person job.
It didnt go smooth.
Here is what I learned and this guy is an expert does a few of them a week.

1.
The original gasket is gold ! Do not cut it or ruin it or get rid of it. You dont need to cut them to extract the window without breaking it.
Replacement gaskets are not exact and its an issue on these cars.

2. The replacement windshield makes a huge difference as well. The one I had was apparently El Cheapo and was... a little bit taller than an orginal and the corners were more dramatic than they should have been. We broke the El Cheapo putting it in but he had a ppg on hand to use instead. In comparing the two.. the PPG was thicker, still not quite as thick as oe glass but almost twice as thick as the El Cheapo.

3. No one use bedding compound but this guy. He also gauranteed it not to leak. If it does bring it back he said.

4. trim clips /// aftermarket ones are not the same.. or at least the ebay ones I bought werent. he has some donor cars out back and had one of his guys go strip some

5. Beadlock... go figure in 1970..LOL
he showed me how it all works and had a 69 charger next to me he was demonstrating on. He could have had it out in 15 minutes. Original gasket makes a difference.

He wasnt going to charge me for the ppg window but I told him I wanted to pay for it, so he sold it to me at cost which was $104. He was only going to charge me $65 originaly but he had to get me some slips and to be honest spent about 4 solid hrs on it with 2 guys helping him. He bumped it to $125 He said there is always one in the crowd but he didnt stop till he had it in. So I thought it only fair that I paid for the window, he undersold the labor really bad and made no money what so ever if you ask me.. did me a favor more than anything to be honest. SO then he adjusted it again...LOL and I paid 172 for 3 gys for 4 hrs and a ppg window....

Called me a day ago and said he noticed I needed a dash pad, had had a nice black one for $50 no cracks if I wanted it..LOL I said I'll be over some time this week..hahahahaha
Genuine good guy, seemed to like my enthusiasm.. he bought his first charger which he still has when he was 18 in like 1979 I think he said... been collecting them ever since them.. thats how he managed to get so many rare hemi cars he said, he knew what to look for and bought when the time was right.. no way he could afford to buy what he owns already..

I drove over there ...35 miles away with no windshield and the driver door held shut sort of with a rope and no seat belts ....hahahahahah maybe he felt bad for me ?

Good to know, I cut the gasket on my parts car to get those out, on the 67 ill try to get it out in one piece. Good thing I have two windshields and two rear windows both original OEM!
