Easy way= cut the rubber,
Peeling back the rubber from the inside while applying pressure works once and a while, but you mostly get a cracked windshield thats way.
You are more than likely going to have to sacrafice the rubber or the glass, I would vote for killing the rubber
As stupid as it sounds, that's probably the best way. A new windshield will be formulated out of the newest compounds and be better anyway. Also......it's the WRONG time of the year to try to get one out in one piece. You need to do that in the summer when the gasket is good and soft.
new gaskets dont fit properly.. I learned the hardway on my 70 Sport Satellite and replacement glass sucks as well. Its thin and cheap and not sized correctly. If the gasket is nice then save it or you could be sorry
it took 3 windshields to finaly get one into my car and we compared new to old and it isnt close...
The old WS is twice as thick and the gasket is shaped properly. The new stuff is thin, break very easily and the gasket is more generic than meant for the exact shape of the WS area
Doubtful that you can save an old windshield gasket. Considering that its 47 yrs old. You could always butal tape it or urathane the windshield in.
Use some urathane in the new gasket around the windshield and use string inside the outer part of the gasket. Place the windshield( with gasket on it )into the windshield channel, line it up and start from bottom center working ur way around. You'll end up at the top middle. Two people makes it much easier. Put pressure on the windshield from the outside(you) and pull the string slowly from the inside(other guy)and go slow making sure the gasket goes over the pinch weld. And thats about it. Then u can install ur moldings.
Urathane and butal tape is allot easier than using a gasket, but if ur all about oem, then u have no other choice.
