Worst engines ever.

I gotta add one engine to my favs. Jeep 4.0. I think that's just an update on an old AMC design, but those engines seem to run forever with few problems, good power and low maintenance

i agree until like 2000 in the grand cherokee they did some changes and screwed them up now i'm selling the hell out of those motors also 99-up models only
 
Wow, I suppose I am lucky. My two 1969 Simca 1204 cars ran great, as did my two 225 powered cars, my two polyhead 318 cars.


Gotta remember, that Simca is Mopar too :) My first car was a 1962Simca. 15 years old, no license, no insurance, tags were temps changed with a magic marker. I shoulda gone to jail. Things sure were simpler 40 years ago <sigh>

in 1975 I drove from Detroit to Denver in a my friends Simca 1204 in the middle of winter. You had to stop every 25 miles & knock the ice out of the carb or it would stall out. He still has that car today & it runs great! (except in the winter)
 
the only problem i had with the Jeep 4.0 was that the thing ALWAYS was over heating after the 100K mark, burned through water pumps and thermorstats besides that though, it was one tough engine. As for crap trannies, my 1991 chrysler fifth avenue is still dead on my drive way, it always kicked SO hard I thought it was going to fly off and if you were lucky you'd be able to shift above second and if it didn't you'd have to restart in neutral (on the highway this was fun trying to coast to a shoulder from the far left lane).
 
Once the head gasket was changed the quad 4's weren't that bad. I have two of them. The GM 3.8's (3800) have been around forever with good longevity. I've had three. Still one of them. Series I,II, and now III. Each one has made it to at least 284,000 miles with normal wear items replaced. Hell the series III went 231,000 one original plugs.
 
Throw in the 3.8 Ford.

The 2.5 BMW was prone to warping heads. When that happened it was almost fun having to beat the rocker shafts out.

the 3100 and 3400 GM's. After all this time and they still can't figure a way to keep the intake gaskets from blowing? And then the customer drives it low on coolant, overheats it, and then there go the head gaskets. What a fun job that is when they're stuck in minivans.

Pop says the 348 Chevy was one of the biggest POS's he's ever owned. Never tuned right and was a road oiler.

Speaking of road oilers: the 2.8 GM.

When it came time to buy the wife something newer I wanted her in an Intrepid. All I could find was 2.7 powered ones. She's in a Hyundai.

Speaking of foreign and oil issues; which Toyota engine did they lose the class action lawsuit over for the very same issues the 2.7 has?

Anyone work on the early Caddy Northstars? Good idea making the aluminum block softer than the head bolts so the threads would pull out of the block instead of stretching the bolts. How many blocks have you seen that have been helicoiled back together?

Whatever engine was in the Renault Daulphine. My father and father-in-law both owned one. Ask either one about the cars and all you get is swearing.
