Would 3'' exhaust with H pipe be to big ?

Well i would rather have a better sounding car over 5hp any day so i guess the H is the way to go for sound because i want that deep rumble.

Doesn't the power advantage of the X or H pipe depend heavily on the exact location, which will be different for every car? I remember reading that the bolt in X/H pipes are basically a compromise for location to ease the installation, and will not necessarily help the engine any more or less. I do agree that the H pipe will give a throatier sound.

You should keep some * back presure for sure * super free flowing is not always better look at your combo do it need a real big exhaust or not.? I think a 2 1/2 is more than enough.

I have 3'' on my 66 sate but i have indy heads and the motor make 580 hp & 600 ft tq.

well my plans are to go bigger, bigger cam, indy heads and etc.. but right now im just trying to get it going good,get all the bugs worked out

You will never notice the difference between an x pipe or h pipe set up on a street car. What really matters which is easier to remove when you need to work on the car. I run a 2 1/2 inch system on my 67 Coronet 472 hemi and made the exhaust from stock stainless pipe. It is a street car. putting 3 inch exhaust on a street car is a joke.

I'm running TTI 2" headers, w/3" TTI H pipe, and Magnaflow "Hemi" size mufflers turned down at the axle, it makes it easier to drop the exhaust to swap trannies/converters.

69' Coronet 500 w/solid lifter cammed/10.5:1 comp., 440.
