WTF is this: B&M clutch flite

To my knowledge certain drag strips and maybe the NHRA outlawed the Neutral Drop Start, very hard on certain components...
Just my $0.02...

Yep! That and low gear burnouts can scatter a transmission as well.

Yep. NHRA outlawed the neutral drop start when maxwedge torqueflites started exploding from it.(everybody else had shitty automatics, but had four speeds, maxes were stuck with 3 speeds or the torqueflite, and a neutral drop was faster than a 1500rpm stall converter.)

Yup... I recall I think 63/64 didn't yet have a 4 speed was stuck with the B/W T-85 3 speed or torqueflite.
I was told Chrysler did build some max wedges with the B/W T-10 but they didn't handle the higher max-wedge torque, so it was dropped.
Then they developed their own A-833 4 speed which had some beefier gears and internals..

Pretty sure there were T10s behind 383s, and maybe some street wedge 426s, but never behind a maxwedge that I know of. Heck, a 289 Ford could bust up a T10, not sure one could get out of the dealer parking lot behind a max, let alone a race hemi.

So what was the 1949 Chrysler New Yorker or Windsor trans? They had a clutch, reverse, neutral, 2nd and 3rd gear. You could leave it in 2nd when stopped with the clutch out. I always called them a clutch flight.
I believe it was marketed as a fluid drive Dad had a 48 Chrysler with that set up

From what I was told from Tom tignanelli the clutchflite was the brainstorm of chrysler engineering & the front pump cover was originally steel or cast iron piece which made it extremely heavy which is why he didn't like working on the original one in my 65 dodge. Eventually Chrysler gave the plans to B&M to fine tune & lighten up with the aluminum front pump cover.

Hmmm..
Did a little more research..
Chrysler did build some 1963 model cars with the T-10 transmission.
This was done mostly to counteract the marketing street charisma of the 4-speed 406 and 409 cars...
Most likely...
The T-10 was available for 6 cylinders, 318, 361 and 383 equipped cars. The 426 street wedge came out as a 1965 model so this would have used the new A-833 4 speed transmssion which was introduced on 1964 not the T-10.
If anyone has more specific, updated, validated information and/or dates, pls post them.

Oh yes ! However, the "outlaw" track that I ran at the time, didn't care. :drinks::lol:
