Some real progress Randy

love the intake too, cudachick did you good

it all looks good from here

I can attest to troubles with metallics too,
even base-coat/clear-coat paints
I won't go into it here

maybe you can tape off/cover the areas where it's good
& just reshoot the specific panel/the areas/corner to corner so to speak
you had to fix/wet sand etc.

not sure if you're even still at that phase or stage

good luck

I decided the engine bay was good enough. I'll add some wet look hardener to the next thing I paint and see how I like that...most likely the front bumper brackets and the front bumper. Should be enlightening. After that, assuming success, the close out panels are next..

front grill / headlight/fender/trim mounts and parts in primer. And the painter...lol...:bananaweed::bananaweed:

Painted and installed. Tracking down the bits and bobs is easy since I bagged and tagged them during the last mock up...will need to touch up a few spots that I scraped up trying to remember how each part went on..lol The two motors bolted right up and lined up perfectly with the bore holes of the bucket axles. Almost like I planned it that way....snicker...

Got everything adjusted nearly perfect. Still don't like the gapping between the buckets and grille but i'll work on it some more. Part of the battle is locating the correct bolts with identical diameter washers and heads They are a short length so the bucket edges don't catch on them. Next is restoring the buckets and grill and painting them.

Man, someone lit a FIRE!!! Great progress on the car - keep up the good work!

I have never seen a K member painted the color of the body but that Is a good look.

Maybe an "Elevator" style bolt is what your'e after for the bucket spacing. Looks good!

If your referring to the bucket horizontal edges catching on the bolts hanging down from above, as they spin open and closed, there are short bolts, 1/2" long, that fasten the frame work that are designed to be short enough to NOT catch the lip as it spins by. Unfortunately, two of the holes are wallered out and those bolts no longer tighten up. So it's now bolts with nuts. I'm trying to keep all of the bolt heads on top the same, as they are supposed to be, but don't seem to have two bolts with the same head and washer as the rest that are long enough to put a nut underneath. That also wont catch on the buckets. I will end up using a longer bolt and slicing off the excess. Maybe even grinding on the end to clearance for the bucket rotation.
The left and right gap between grille and buckets is easy. Just need to adjust in a few places.

Restored the right bucket and grille back to black and chrome. Unfortunately the chrome on the bucket isn't the best.

Cleaned up two headlights and pans/springs/adjusters etc...and got the left headlight bucket assembled. Still need to prep and paint the right face plate bucket half. These lights go in specific spots I found out. What a pain in the ***...lol. Do I have them on right? Does the high beam go in the inside? Looks like I have them switched..i cant tell......
