You May Be Eating Crickets and Not Know

Folks in Southeast Asia eat grubs which are rich in protein. I’m not planning on eating any grubs myself but some coworkers that live over there have gotten used to eating them (usually mashed up and not recognizable). I equate it with chitlins, lutefisk, durian fruit, or tripe aka gross.
Eating a 3-ounce serving of chicken will provide you with 27 grams of protein as opposed to 6 grams from crickets. The media is touting insects as a food that can save the environment, but growing chickens in a backyard is equally environmentally friendly and much better for your health.

Rocky mountain oysters have never sounded appealing no matter how much I drank...

X2!
They sell crap in a grocery store that people buy everyday that I wouldn't eat, ever! For starters, how many testicles has anyone eaten.

They've been selling these forever.

Testicles are just another organ. 'Mountain oysters' sliced, battered, & fried are great. Beef tongue (lingua) tacos are also quite tasty...the meat is actually very soft. I can also eat my share of gizzards...doesn't matter if it's chicken, turkey, or duck. I'm personally not big on liver though.

We have a Testicle Festival in Missouri and have since the 70's. I don't eat them myself, but I will do me some liver if it's done right!!

Never tried Rocky Mountain Oysters. I guess I never really had the opportunity. I love me some liver and onions though. And I always use the giblets in gravy. One time, during my second marriage, my wife at the time fancied herself as a Martha Stewart. She was at the store and in the meat case they had a calf kidney on display. What for?, I have no idea. This was in the early 90’s. She convinced them to sell it to her, and had a gourmet surprise supper waiting for me when I got home from work. I only had one bite, the rest went in the trash.

I'm a freak. I like them, as well as the seafood version. Ate them for the first time at a restaurant in Texas. I knew what they were, my co-workers didn't. They nearly puked when our host told them.

What’s the seafood version?
Plain old regular oysters look similar to sliced bull's testicles, and when fried taste the same, only stronger. I prefer them raw, which gags most people at the same table, much the same as when I ate the "Rocky Mountain" variety.

Oh, say no more. I’m in Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. I used to grow them commercially. Had 5 acres of water and usually about 150,000 oysters. Very yummy.

My ex would cook a hotdog until is was a black hard stick. I'll take the oysters!

and then, never mind I don't want to know!

I though geisha girls wore makeup but it was just the melamine in the milk!

sorry, no bull testies for me, or of any kind, now, searching for ovaries with....
or as RC would say...

If it's to hard to keep our foods clean, they creat a new standard, lower standard. Higher cost, lower standards, sounds about right in this world we live in. Round up anyone!!!

While in the military, I almost prefer bugs to them nasty MRE's

During my bulk food transport days, I was also surprised to learn that pet food producers had higher standards than those selling products for human consumption. Quality control people told me it was because small animals had increased vulnerability to contaminants, cause and effect was easier to determine than in humans, and liability could get just as costly.

After harvest, apples are often stored in refrigerated warehouses with carefully controlled conditions, including low oxygen levels and high carbon dioxide levels, to slow down ripening and aging down. So last years apples are sold this year.
