Your 1st Mopar

My first mopar, which was also my first car period, was a '68 Barracuda Fastback with a 318 and 904 automatic. Bought it in January of 1984 for $850 from a girl I went to school with. She was a good friend of my best friend and so I had seen the car many times before I bought it. It was metallic blue, originally white, with the front in gray primer and missing quite a few of the chrome pieces. This is when I really became a moparhead. My parents did have a 68 Monaco station wagon with a 440 when I was a kid but, unfortunately, I never got to drive it. Here is the only picture I have of my first 'cuda. img013.jpg

1969 roadrunner. Paid $500 for it in 1975. sold it for $500 in 1978. Ugh

Mine was a 70 Challenger R/T S/E 440 sixpack. with a wrecked front end. In 1982. I could afford the car but not the sheet metal to fix it at the time and passed on the deal. Fast forward 15 years, I ended up buying the same car, or what I believe is the same car, and still own it today. GoMango, 440 sixpack, automatic, white longitudinal R/T stripe. white top, burnt orange interior. I believe it's the same car because they only built 161 of them. What are the odds there were two of them in the Denver metro area?

Ok, first car was a '55 Dodge Crusader that I inherited in 1962. Flathead six (we called them soft cranks). Blew three of them before buying a parts car (for $10!!) and using all necessary parts to convert to a V8. Nosed & decked it, duals with Walker Continentals, reversed rims, 12V conversion, "Foxcraft" floor shift, tach - thought it was pretty cool. Next, a '64 Dodge Polara H/T, 318 automatic. Next a new dark green '68 Road Runner, 383/4 gear, deluxe interior, post car 3:23 sure grip, manual drums (terrible), manual steering - loved it but wrapped it around a tree when it was two years old (stupid!) Next Mopar was a used '68 GTX, 440/4 gear, power disk brakes, power steering, dark green hard top with white interior bucket seats - it was an AWESOME car and I sold it for $2500. in 1971 (more stupid). Bought a new '73 Dodge van - 318/3 on the tree. Great van for hauling dirt bikes. Also, over the years, an '83 Horizon, '81 caravelle (former cop car 318 four barrel & heavy duty everything). Had a '90 Dakota p/u followed by a '99 Ram 1500. Finally bought my '66 Coronet 500 two years ago - 318 (Poly)/727/8 3/4 rear with 2:94 gears, 50K original miles, original paint and interior and vinyl roof, original drive train. Loving it!! Like a lot of guys, I got my love of Mopars from my Dad!
