Your 1st Mopar

1968 Charger ...bought it in April of 1970 had till Nov. 1979 when it was stolen and no part of it was ever recovered :angryfire:...wow that was some time ago ...still my favorite car...due to their value today probably never own one again

When I was 16 I bought a 1969 Plymouth Fury VIP with a 383 magnum. Had the engine chained down due to broken motor mounts. One door was welded shut, the wipers did not work, and quarters were rusted through. I'd swing by the junkyard after school and fill the trunk up with tires and spent the weekends burning them down to the steel belts. That car was a beast! Looking back, I'm surprised I am still alive.

A 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 with a 440 from an early 70's Roadrunner. Bucket seats and a console. Bought it when I was in highschool back in the mid 80's. Then traded it to a guy for a 69 Roadrunner and some CASH!

I got off work and went by the house. My dad and brother went with me to the dealership and as soon as we turned into the drive.... there it was, parked directly in front of the entrance to the showroom. BUT wait...... It has a set of Dodge dog dish hubcaps on it.... whats up with that....? Apparently the prep guys didn't know about the hubcap delete thing. They thought the factory had forgotten to put the caps in the car and so got a set of Dodge caps from the parts dept and put them on. I may have taken delivery of the only A12 to come with hub caps.... LOL.
The saga continues from there with many great and memoral times crusing the streets, Woodward ave, drive-ins, girls. It was a magic time and I wished I had been more aware of that then. It was a machine in a time that will never be duplicated.
Enjoy your A12's guys.... If ya have em...smoke em...!

Great story bluefury! thanks for sharing.

72 Barracuda. A total project when I bought it. Ended up selling it before it was done, and I still kick myself for that. Doesn't help that I see it every now and then lol.

My first Mopar was my first car-a 1956 Savoy 2 Dr Sed, 6, 3 speed w/OD. It was a 1958 New Yorker w/392 that GOT me.
Mike

67 Barracuda was my first but I think I like my 70 RR a little bit more.

First car....68 Dart 270 bought from my brother in 1987 when I was 14 for $1400. Still have it today.

The Sunfire yellow Road Runner is my dads car. He bought it in the early 80s and sold it in 1986 to someone off autotrader despite my attempt to buy it with my paper route money. They said it was too much car for me and it would be "silly" to own a car at 14. I showed them!!

My first was a 73 Satellite Sebring Plus that my parents bought new when they got married. My Father and I turned into a RR clone in 1989 when I started driving. The first one I bought was a 72 Charger when I was a Junior in HS. Paid $500 for the Charger but there wasn't a rust free panel on it and it had about 120k on the odometer. The 400 burned so much oil it would foul plugs every two weeks. Sold both of them in College.

First mopar was a '74 RR w/360-4bbl Used to be the local cop car in southern iowa. Traded a 66 belair plus $500 for it. Raced my 2nd mopar I owned and almost beat it '70 charger R/T 440-4spd. 2 cars I would love to get back.

Depends on how much a Mopar purist you are. My first car was a 71 Colt. My dad worked for Chrysler Corp back in the 70's in their Dallas regional office. He dealt with all of the Dodge dealers in the area and found it cheap on one of their lots. I wasn't thrilled, to say the least. Fortunately for me, it threw a rod halfway between Dallas and OKC a few months later. Got a 66 Charger with a 318 Poly after that. That was my first REAL Mopar.

A 1965 Sport Fury with a 440/727 it originally had a 426 wedge with a 4 speed that a friend had grenaded drag racing. I wasn't smart enough to get pictures of it.

'68 Charger with 383 auto...bought in '73 with 79k miles for $500 and it ran great. Bought another '68 cause I loved em so much.

I did all the work myself, which worked some of the time. I could pull out the tranny on the 440 by myself, while on my back under the car.

That is a great story.

I too grew up in the Detroit area and loved WABX and cruising Woodward and Gratiot. ABX was my first rock station. Too bad they disappeared. Got a drag racing ticket on Gratiot...I did win the race though, in my '68 Charger 440.

I was too young to buy those great Mopar muscle cars new, but I bought my share used in the late 70s and early 80s. My father was an executive at Chrysler and got two new cars every year under the executive lease plan. I tried desperately to get him to order a muscle car in the early 70s, but was not successful. The best I could do was convince him to order the NEW Challenger in 1970 Plum Crazy. But, he would only agree to the 318 auto. My older brother was driving then and he really loved the car as did I. Though I had my sights on a Hemi or 440 RT. My brother took me to MSU for little brother's weekend and he wound that Challenger up to 110 mph on I-96 in perfect weather. Dad did bring home a couple cool loaners though. One time he came home with a '71 Hemi Cuda. He took me for a ride, but it was apparent to me, the power of the car scared him. That car had such a wonderful sound and looked so cool...and to think it is now worth huge money.

Dad got me a job at the Chrysler Parts plant in Center Line. I started there the Monday after graduating from high school, because Dad did not want me loafing around the house...ugh! Worked there for 4 years. Most of the guys I worked with had muscle cars. I wish I had taken pictures of the parking lot as it was full of them.

One sad thing - while working at the parts plant, one day the Foreman pulls several of us aside to pull "outdated parts" from the warehouse. It makes me cry thinking about it...we sent out several tri-wall containers of aluminum six pack manifolds for destruction.

Iwas ruined at an early age. My dad was a designer at Chrysler. During 1963 he went on the executive lease plan. His 1st lease was a 64 Chrysler 300K 4 speed, then a 65 Baracuda Formula S. Fast forward to 1969. I'm 15 and my dad says there are all new Baracuda's and a new car called the Challenger. We go down to Hamtramack to take a look. There in the shipping yard are hundreds of E-bodys. My dad say's "i think I'll order a Lemon Twist 440-Cuda". I say no, we need a Plum Crazy Challenger. A month or so later my dad comes home with the lease order form, Hands it to me and say's you pick. My eyes light up, Challenger R/T SE, hemi , 4speed ,4.10 ,shaker, power windows, the works. Dad loks and say's, Hemi aaahhhh well OK, 4.10 NO, 4 Spped, No. Everthing else flew (shaker didn't come but was ordered). Got my learners permit in it, got my license test in it, abused it. It went back to Chrysler after a year and 8000 HARD miles. Never saw it again. A couple of years latter I bough a beater 68 Road Runer 4 speed with a 440 and a iron 6 pack. I've had a Chrysler hot rod of some type for 44 consecutive years since.

That sir is in the running for THE COOL *** STORY OF THE YEAR!

Great stories guys - thanks!

My family has been Mopar preferred since my grandfather with his 1957 Plymouth Fury and my father had a 1947 Dodge Power Wagon plus other Mopars over the years. But the Mopars that stuck with me my family didn't own. They were all of the Pennsylvania State Police cruisers. If Mopar was good enough for them, it was good enough for me.

Didn't see where I posted on this already so sorry if I did but...(I'll set the tone)....
I was 15 years old just got dropped off at work (part time at the grocery store) found out I wasn't working that day after my ride took off ,so I started walking (no cell phone yet)and there she was sitting on a trailer it's gold paint gleaming(what's left of it) saw the for sale sign on her got excited,I had saved up exactly that much and my bank was right there so wrote the number down made a call in the bank got the cash ,and waited I looked it over guy started it and we drove it in the parking lot, well after a bit I said ok I'll take it ,guy was a little taken back a kid buying his car but we made a deal ,I drove it home my father loved it (his brother had one like it) mom wasn't so excited for it .I learned how to power brake a car this day and it was to much fun till the trans blew (same day I bought it) so it was upgrade time pulled trans and dropped it off at the shop did some eng cleaning sealing and some bolt ons trans back in add a Hurst shifter and rattle can painted her and drove that beastly 318 all there high school only car in school that was faster then me was my friends 79 trans am ,so knowing the 318 couldn't get me close I just bought the trans am and was agen the faster car in school. I loved my charger never left me stranded ,I sold it to a friend of mine because I had a 74 s.e. sunroof car and a 68 charger at this time and priorities changed . Well over a 10 year span I've bought that car back and sold it a little after 4 diff times ,I almost bought her back recently but decided to let her go (didn't like the way it was built).
So anyways that's my cars storey someone is enjoying her now ,but I will never forget that car she was my rust crusty baby ,here's a pic of her now I'll try and find a old one too .00m0m_5Xz2RboEnFA_600x450.jpg
