Your 69 road runner was my first car, I want it back.

Cool story, it sounds like he really wants it back. If he is willing to pay, would you sell?

I'd point him in the right direction and politely tell him to buy his own wheels to meet his own tastes. Either that or get the money for those wheels in advance, then if he bails at least you're not the one stuck with a set of steelies you didn't want or want to pay for.
From what I can tell the dude has an attachment to this perticular car. If so, what do you think that buying some random car would do?

YOU DID A GREAT JOB ON THE RR.
I personally I would have repainted it with that mural scheme back on it. That's nostalgic to me.

Man, this must be causing you a few sleepless nights Dave. I would think 5 years from now the decision would be easier to make, but you hardly have any miles on your baby. I agree with Prop, he should buy and install his own tire/wheel combo - that is if you decide to sell.

Concur with Elk and Prop .. and I'll add instead of finding the car you want and having him buy it for you, you know what it'd cost to get a car like you would want and how much that would cost. Have him pay that and use the $ as you see fit for now since you are expanding your business, then buy the car when the right one presents although I agree Hawk has a great idea

There's a lot to be said for your car as it's obviously they way you wanted it since you did it and you own it already though .. decisions, decisions

Good luck

ok, how bout the wheels? and what size? 14"? 15" width?

Which caps would be correct?

ah, I see... so, F70-14. 14" rims, prolly 6 or 7" wide.

How bout the caps?

I only have the 1970 specs for standard sizes, which shows a 6" wide wheel. You could (and I would) use the optional 15" size listed at the bottom.

1970 wheel spec.jpg

As for the dog dish covers, most of the period sales brochures I've seen showed full sized wheel covers, or the optional sport wheels.

It looks like 215/65-15 would be the closest to fact dia and profile in a radial 15", as far as a redline.

I think?

The chart shows F60-15 as the optional tire. TIRE RACK gives the applicable modern tire as P235/60R15. But if they don't have this in a redline, your pick would be next.

cant find the 235/60 15 in redline, would be sweet.

Maybe diamondback would have it, but their website is hard to navigate at the moment

Diamondback has them, I just checked.

Hell, they can give you a redline drag radial if you want, wow, they have everything.

they have several 275/60-15 redline options... that would be bad *** on a set of cop wheels in the back.

That's badass.
The previous owner is super lucky you got the car and skillfully brought it back to its full glory!
I can only dream I have the same experience someday with my A12 69.5 440 sixpack 4speed SuperBee....

Dude, I wish you luck. But if I had that Bee......

I'd keep it off the radar, lol!

That would be so cool

I found this story heartwarming.
Dave you've done a beautiful resto on the RR....and I know you have the ability to do it again.
Sometimes in life situations happen for a reason....good luck ,you'll make the right decision

That was the day I brought it home in 1984. Bought it from the original owner for 1500 bucks. It had been sitting in his driveway for 10 years, and I had passed it every day on my way to school. Had finally saved enough dough to knock on his door and make him an offer. He had swapped out the interior, taken the 6 pack off and put a Ramchager hood on it. He and his brother were big MoPar Max Wedge drag racers and had quite a stable. All the original parts were around, and included with the sale. I put 'em all on within a week of buying it.
I had more style that sense at the time (maybe still) and was not wise enough to hold onto it for long.
I wonder about the fate of that B often....

Dang it Snowman .. that's too bad. I feel the same about a V code 70 RR I used to have

Pretty cool story on the road runner! Uncle Sam claimed my butt and sent me over seas and had to sell my first car. It was a mo-door but sure had a lot of fun with it and that got even better when the 383 got dropped in place of the poly teen. I also dated my wife while driving it...but it's long gone. Heard the guy that bought it smacked a bridge abutment with it. The car was bought new in 66 by my sister and I got it in 69. Would I want it back again? Sure but the one I miss the most is a 71 340 Cuda that 'we' bought in 86 when my old girl friend and I finally got married. She also went in another direction when Uncle Sam got me but I did tell her no to wait me like a dumb *** lol. Sold the Cuda around 2000 or so....

NorthernDave . . . what a cool story and a bit of a predicament ! ! ! Wishing you the best on your decision in the matter - hope it all works out well for you.

Good Luck and the sale . . . and most of all, good luck on the new business adventure too !

Thanks Guys, I agreed to sell the car today. He's very happy.

I'll update when the deal is done.

I guess congratulations are in order for you. Not going to ask how much you got for it, (not my business anyways), but I hope it goes a long way to getting your shop open.

That's the plan, lots of work into that car and even though I don't have the level of attachment the previous owner from 40+ years ago had.... I still really liked the car.

As long as I retain SOMETHING to show for it, i'm ok with it. My new shop will really be something, I've dreamed of this for decades.

That will be something to show for the road runner adventure, and I have the photos, the memories, and a few welding burns....

lol.
