Z bar

Attaching the pin that holds the end of z bar to frame rail any ideas how to weld it without pulling the engine

Are you talking about the bracket that holds the end of the z-bar that is welded to the top of the frame rail?

If so, here is a picture of the bracket for a 1971 B-body.

I guess welding it in place with the drivetrain is in place is doable if you are a good contortionist...

I think I did mine by pulling the steering column.

I just did the bracket on my 69, it was cracked so I just replaced the whole frame bracket and I pulled the motor. I test fit the new bracket with the engine installed to line it up and just tacked it, even with the torsion bar, header and steering column out it was still pretty tight to be able to weld all the way around.

I did it to a '69 Fury II in 1978, when I was 16, with a torch and a brazing rod. Should be zero issue with a MIG welder.

Not clear on what you gents are talking about but welding **** solid there is a bad idea.
Why would you weld anything there? Welding means it's a bitch to disassemble.

You have to weld the bracket in. Do not believe that auto cars have that bracket, assuming that this guy is converting an auto to a 4-speed.

I bolted mine in (back in 1980). It worked fine. I didn't have a welder back then.
