Thank you for the replies. I am going to give it a shot

I do parkerizing on guns. I make my own solution from kitchen grade phosphoric acid and manganese. It is incredibly cheap. Once the reaction is complete I rinse in hot water and coat in beeswax. It gets right in the pores. I did my hunting rifle forty years ago. I use it every year, hunt hard, and it still looks great.

As an option and what I do, zinc plate the part and use a black chromate. I have a Caswell zinc kit and works well. It is more work than Parkerizing and it has a bit of a rainbow look that Parkerizing doesn't have. But, it will last for years and years with no maintenance. No one can tell the difference when it is installed.

Caswell doesn't have the best customer service but their kits do work. I have been using their kits for well over 20 years. With the zinc kit, you can then use different chromates - clear (blueish tint), black and yellow. Mopars have all of those finishes.

I have parkerized parts in the past. The Caswell kit looks much easier to use so I ordered the concentrate to try out.
