Scotch whiskey: Do you imbibe?

I am on my 2nd bottle of Ardbeg and have an inch of Speyside and Ardbeg left so am looking for new ones to try. Really like the Ardbeg. Speyside to light for me. My fiance has taken a fancy to the Ardbeg also. We are in Fr Lauderdale for her Medical conference and just stopped in a Total Wine and More near Pier 66 and was blown away at the Single Malt selection! Good prices too compared to Cleveland. About $10 a bottle cheaper for some.

Speyside is an area..around the river Spey in Moray, Badenoch and Strathspey in North East Scotland.

Which Speyside whisky do you have?

If you liked Ardberg, then try Lagavulin next.

Something new for this weekend!

Caol Ila has really stepped up in my house. Speyburn is too lite in the pants. My GF now wife. (got married last Saturday April 4th) has taken to the Islay single malt! She got her own bottle if Caol Ila for a wedding gift. Now I have to share my Scotch if I get to share hers! Lisa is an interesting women. She spent 8 yrs at Walter Reed Army Hospital in D.C. where she was an attending Dr of Neurology. Currently she is in Ft Carson in Colorado and will be there for 6 weeks. She is Army Reserve now but a Full Bird Colonel. So I can understand her learning to like a Great Scotch but prefers Islay. She is as complex as a good Single malt Islay. Love them both.

Congrats on the wedding, and also a wife that likes single malt!

Caol Ila is great. We really like it and it features at nearly every whisky night I hold.

I've always been a Jack Daniels fan which is Bourbon. It doesn't last long in our house. We were surprised to find Lynchburg was a dry county. It was very weird being there kinda waiting for Rod Serling to come out and narrate. Here's our souvenir

I went to watch this game on the weekend;

and brought this home;

It came with this snazzy carry bag which has wheels (for those times when you buy 3 or 4 bottles at once ;)

Obviously a Limited Edition Cask Strength Whisky is to be savoured on special occasions....breakfast is an occasion...right?? :grin:

I wondered why you didn't want to put your bag down when you came visiting Rog, lol.

I won a Texas Micky of Canadian Club back in 1999 and it is still in the box unopened. Last year I was looking on line to see if whiskey ages in the bottle and surprisingly, to me, it does not. I was looking forward to sampling it with the boys but when I found that it does not age I thought what hell, it can stay in the bottle until when ever and who knows I might even give it away one day.

The sign of the apocalypse!

Jim Beam warehouse struck by lightning released 800,000 gallons into lake...
A tragic, if dramatic, waste of whiskey.

End result....Pickled Catfish? That is a very sad site....I went there in 1990, and it was a highlight of my trip.

Not a big Scotch guy at all,
I don't care for the taste/aftertaste especially

I do like an occasional Jack or Jim & Coke
I do really like Makers Mark & Nobb Creek for my sippin' whiskey
Gentleman Jack isn't too bad either...

Been on a Vodka kick, Grey Goose or Fuzzy's the past few years,
when I do drink, it's really pretty rare now, mainly because
my Ol' Pops has to stay off the crap, Dr.'s orders, bad heart, almost died
because of his compulsive {alky} a quart a day Early Times habit for 50+ years etc.
so I don't drink in-front of him anymore...
BUT; I do know he still drinks like a fish, when he's on RV/road trips
& He ain't fooling me either, shakes like a m-fer when he come back
from the trips for a few days, but It's way better than a quart a day he was doing for decades...

I like a good Samuel Adams beer every once in a while...

I was a Cuervo Gold or Suaza Tequila/Mescal drinker in my younger years,
it'd help to make me mellow, any Brown liquors made me wanta' get rowdy/fight,
than later years it was Tequila that made me rowdy...LOL,
so I switched back to the whiskey/bourbon, it helped to make me mellow,
now it's vodka...LOL
