Brake bleeding gizmo

Just picked up this nifty tool to aid in bleeding brakes that I found online. It has an O-ring on the inside, so theoretically, it snaps over the bleeder and the fluid would pass straight through it and out the tube with no mess. This one is for 5/16" hex......

The problem with that is most of the aftermarket wheel cylinders and calipers have various size bleeders on them. I have found none to be consistent.

I have found that the aftermarket (drum) wheel cylinders are 8mm.

I have bought 2 rear wheel cylinders from the same Oreillys store and both had different sized fittings. No standards in the aftermarket I guess.

Since there is always 3 of us in the garage ( me, myself and I), I generally use an " adapted" vacuum pump. Let me know how this works RC

Best brake bleeding tool for an empty system ever....

Don't even put fluid into the master cylinder, bolt everything together dry then start in the right rear & pump about ten squirts in through the bleeder screw and tighten the bleeder... Then move to the left rear & pump until fluid shows up in the master cylinder...

Then move to the right front... And pump til you just see fluid show up in the master cylinder.... Move to the left front & repeat... Top off the M/C... Go drive the car, your done...

I have had piss-poor luck with one way bleeder systems. I'd love to be able to do it myself to save the Wife from having to walk 5 miles uphill both ways in the blazing sun to help me.

That's how I do airplanes, from the bottom up and the air just goes ahead of the fluid. I moved up from the squirt can to a windshield washer pump and a battery...

Yup, push the air ahead of the fluid uphill rather than trying to push it down & out of the bleeder screw..

Dumb question maybe but would you not need to leave both rear bleeders open and pump fluid from the left until fluid came out the right to make sure air did not get trapped in the line? Close the left and move to the right and continue.

It can be done that way or the way I posted.... Usually 5-6 pumps moves enough fluid to purge the line, I suggest 10 just to be safe.... Then move to the other side... The leaving the bleeder open method absolutely works too...

The only thing is if you leave the bleeder open after you close it don't move to the other side cause the rubber hose connecting the squirt can to the bleeder screw might drain some & you'd introduce air into the system... Better to continue from the first location....

As Kern Dog said, i haven’t had much luck with one man bleed kits either. Although i’ve only tried the hand vacuum ones. This method seems pretty fool proof though, and pushing the air up and out seems like it’d work.
