Drove over an hour to purchase an alleged 440/512 race engine. Not only were the heads misrepresented as 906, this “race engine” 440 stroked to 512 had:

452 heads with single stock springs
Cast internally balanced 440 crank
Stock 440 connecting rods
And more pits and rust that I am not sure a hone job would rectify.

Pics for your thoughts on the viability of this large paperweight:

scrap price minus the time, effort, and gas....... he would owe you money

you didn't buy it did you? :poke:

you gave him a 500 dollar deposit for something an hour away?

The seller didn't send you pictures or post pictures in their for sale ad (e.g., Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace)? You heard about the engine by word of mouth?

Maybe the hour spent driving was a nice, scenic "Sunday drive"?

Looks like it sat for an extended time and was exposed to rainfall into the cylinders. Doubt it won many races for some time.

Yes because my Mother passed away and I was involved with planning her service as well as dealing with her estate.

Pics on marketplace did not show the damage and yes, It was a very nice drive.

very sorry for the loss of your mother.... that is a lot to deal with....... best of luck moving forward

Do you have a boat that needs an anchor? Sorry to hear about your Mom.

This doesn't even make any sense. How do get to 512 with a cast crank?

At any rate, .... bad deal. It's not only not as advertised, it's junk. Was it intentional, or did the guy really not know what he had - really does not matter. I would play it like he was also unaware and try to amicably return it. It would be a lot easier.

No need to return as I didn’t go through with the purchase. I always use goods and services just for this reason. PayPal will make me whole. Anyone requiring Friends and family for any type of payment are usually scammers leaving the purchaser with no recourse should a transaction go sideways.

Did he say he would not return the deposit?

Hope you laughed out loud when he made his sales pitch hone it. Bet there were more rib breakers from laughing.
