Where did you and your car go today

I always told my son to work hard and be proud of the job you do no matter what. Also look for something better if you're not happy. We spend too much time at work (whether for someone else or yourself) to be unhappy there.
At the end of my working career (past 50) I was lucky enough to find good bosses, however if they hadn't treated me well I just would have bought my own business and did things my way. The end bosses let me run everything my way so I suppose it all ended the same.
I told my son the same thing, you're spot on. Life can be long when you're miserable and short when you're happy.

I always told my many bosses, if he was one of those on a power trip, how would you like me to do that. I had a thing, you don't get bragging rights for our work if you know nothing about what we do. He'd say, that's my job to tell you what to do and you do your job. I told him, great, but you're not climbing that ladder by stepping on our heads. In short order he got the point, I stayed and they were moved on. Working together gets everyone a feather for their hat.

Warming up here but roads are still - literally - white with salt. Charger is staying put.

Car wise, I may swap transmissions in the turbo van. It's got a wrong-gear-start issue even after I replaced the valve body and the governor (and added a spring to the governor to help prevent sticking). I have spares in the shed...just have to try and remember which are cores and which are usable lol
Shifting solenoid? Drain a little of the trans fluid in a pan, what's it look like.

Fluid is fresh. I had the pan off last fall, replaced the VB and added the governor spring. Back together, same symptom...parked it. Fluid at the start was alright - not bottle-pink, but not chocolate brown and burnt, either. No metal. No slip on accel (boost levels are not stock, though - I'm running about 18psi right now)...but it won't pick first at a stop, and it won't upshift while driving once I manually put it in first, then click up to second. It's like it's unlocked - on the gas, it revs and drives; lift off the gas, revs drop like its in neutral, no engine braking, and no shift. A413 auto (basically a FWD version of the 904).

Admittedly...auto trans' are voodoo to me. I can rebuild a stick, rebuild an engine, build motorcycles, replace clutches, rebuild a diff, but an auto trans? :wtf:

It sounds like the governor isn't moving freely. I'm sure you checked for debris when you had it apart. You've replaced, without guting it, most of the obvious part. Something in the clutch pack maybe.

It is when you work for a company that treats you right and pays you right !
If you can get both at the same place, that's a win. My corporate employer abused the daylights out of everyone who worked there, standard operating procedure, but they paid the most in their industry, and it was well known. I worked for myself when it was over, less money, but a walk in the park by comparison.

While they aren't perfect my current company is pretty nice to me, and the pay is good, not as good as at some of the silicon valley companies where I worked, but in trade I WFH so it evens out with the lack of commuting expenses. Plus my commute was around 4 hrs a day, so in comparison I feel semiretired now, but with a FT paycheck. Knock on wood it lasts as long as I want it to.

Four hours a day makes for a long day. I'm glad for you now!!

It was rough, and I was burning thru cars. In 2010 I bought a Challenger SE and commuted to San Fran everyday. In 2014 I traded it in with 199X miles on it. I kept doing things like that until around 2019 when I had the last office job.

It's speaks volumes about your work ethics. We do what we have to, when we have too.

All I do is go to Doctors or Rehab facilities, BUT. It’s 65 degrees and sunny and the scenery was killer.

I'm a fairly new employee at my company. Started November 2024. First time I took the road runner to work. I've had 7 people so far stop by my desk to compliment the car and ask questions. I parked way out from the employee parking as the covered parking spaces are small and my Grand Marquis has shown some dings from careless people.

Nice! I’ve only been at my company for 3 weeks, each day I took mine to work the compliments grew. I didn’t take it yesterday and tons of people were asking where the car was. Doesn’t it feel good to be noticed at work ?
