I like Elon I don't like his cars,
BUT;

So did the Pinto, the Vega, the Monza, the Volare, the Duster/Demon
the Bronco, hell I think it was a dealer option for that one, even out west
& some Jeeps rust out badly, especially the rear frames or tubs
the Corvair was deemed not safe at any speed & were rust prone too
many others too
didn't stop any of them from selling or people buying them

now resale for 10-50 times their org. value, keeps a lot of body guys in work

well the Pinto got stopped
for being a bomb when allegedly hit on the rear
& the Vega crappy engines, but the body made some great light racecars

All those cars you mention are from fifty years ago and didn't command premium pricing. Tesla apparently lacks experience with roads outside of California that the other car manufacturers have learned from since that time. My Lexus has survived salty roads for 30 years without showing any rust.
