Would a 71 B Body out handle a 2018 BMW M3?

Theoretically a 71 Roadrunner with a firm feel/Borgeson 14:1 steering box, boxed lowers tubular uppers and poly bushings with bigger torsion bars and big sway bars front & rear vs a new M3? which owuld handle better?
 
A real-live competition would reveal the answer. I'll drive the road runner, you drive the M3. If I win, I keep the road runner. If you win, you keep the M3 and I'll settle for the road runner.
 
I am not a fan of the M3 per se but I think it would take a lot to make a RR out handle it. I am sure that with enough money, parts and work you could get it close but they are so different in terms of design, CG, wheel base, etc.
 
The Roadrunner could better handle a romantic tryst in the back seat, or could handle more luggage in the trunk, but in a slalom the M3 would take the win.

I doubt you could beat the m3 in a b body in any circumstance. I'd still doubt it with drastic weight reduction and slicks vs street tires. But I think it is absolutely doable in an A body. 66 mustang had fast time of the day at our last autocross. Beating, miatas, bmws, late model challengers, mustangs, and camaro's.
 
I agree that an A body would be a much better platform and could definitely be made to handle "as good" or maybe better (think Green Brick from Mopar Action). The B body platform overall is just too big in terms of wheel base as well as weight in general. Sure you can add more HP but that isn't going to make up the difference generally. I say "generally" because if you throw enough money at a B body (or any car) you can get it to do pretty much whatever you wish.
 
Could you go around Daytona at 200 in an M3?

No. Don’t even try. If you want a car for handling look into something newer.

Yes you can improve the handling but it’s a totally different world however you’ll get more looks in the roadrunner than you will in that M3

Charger ? Another entry into the foray ? Ok, if I win I keep the road runner, if you win I'll take the charger.
 
You could do a lot more things and might be able to match the stone stock 2018 M3's time on a dedicated closed course racetrack.

Those things would involve increasing grip, roll resistance, reducing weight, increased power. You would build something like the Hotchkis E-Max Challenger. That car would probably beat or match a stone stock M3 on a road course or Autocross. Of course the M3 would have stock tires and your 71 B-body would have super wide sticky barely DOT tires

But you will trade off street comfort and amenities drastically. And general street handling.

I'm confused. The thread title refers to a 2018 BMW M3, but your thread post says new M3.

Also, why compare a two door car to a four door car? How about compare the '71 RR to a 2024 BMW M2?

As stated, M3 hands down.

Throw in wheels, tires, more specifics on suspension, big brakes, lightened car, stiffened uni-body, on the RR and it is doable with a whole lotta work. Then the M3 throws on some auto cross tires and takes the title right back.

And the BMW owner disables the rev limiter and thereby adds a whole bunch of mph to his top-end speed.
 
This appears to be one of those "arguing with a guy at work over whose car is faster oh-****-I'm-in-trouble" moments.
