...seems like a lot of mucking about for a street car...craigslist is a good start

There are multiple 8-3/4 that will fit and no need to be adapting this to that... Even with a free' 9" to start with you will be making a new driveshaft and...
I'll second the vote for HotWire for wiring harness. You might want to call them and tell them what you have in mind and get suggestions for year/make/model since there are some major differences in the harness vs oem equipment requirements.
Actually, near zero rust on this car. Some sheet metal damage but I even have a spare ¼ panel and hood that came with it along with a small collection of misc parts.
Since I know that it will be quite awhile until I get to the "cleaning and fixin" part, I'll offer it for sale if anyone is...

IIRC, the 74 may be different from earlier models due to the change in front suspension...someone else may be able to confirn, or deny...

'64 = 55 5/8" (Exc. Max Wedge)
'65-'67= 54 1/4" '
68-'70= 54 15/16" '

1.85 sounds pretty big... Instead of worrying about the pre-load, or lack there of, why not just install adjustable rockers or adjustable pushrods?
With adjustment available you get to make the preload exact on each lifter.
...shameless plug....we sell adjustable pushrods for virtually any...
You can also use a zero-balanced converter...
From the B&M catalogue:
SFI Flexplate - Chrysler
Application:
Chrysler '71-'92 externally balanced 360 with A-727 (These special Chrysler Flexplates must be used when changing converters on an externally balanced engine.)

Apparently my experience with MH engines differs from the above...
Truck engines are a vastly different breed and often the MH are lumped together with the trucks but are in fact closer related to the pass car.
The MH cylinder heads are not the same as the truck 413/440, but may have exhaust...
