1967 Coronet 500 - Billings Montana

Thanks for the comments, the more I work on the car the more I like it! :happy7:

Got some stuff done this weekend...

Installed a new trunk rubber seal, turned out good after I found the right kind of stickum, that was kind of a bitch, tried silicone, that was a dismal failure. I then tried 3M Hi Tack 76, that was a little better but still didn't REALLY stick good. THEN I used Permatex Right Stuff, that stuff is the $hit, works great on everything and is super tough, I love it for gasket making and things like the trunk rubber.

I got the triple gauges installed, they all work with lights too . Also got all my dash lights working, that was a big step.

Got some oil pressure too from my new Melling oil pump... Sweet.

Went up to my parts car yesterday, a 67 440, totally crashed in the front but some good interior stuff I needed, I got the head liner stays, all the interior chrome trim, door handles, the complete dash instrument assembly, the door panels, the rear bumper and the exterior badges, all of that for two 6 packs of beer! What a great guy that has this old car.

My next mission is to purchase a new headliner and get that installed... I should of took some pictures of that work, my headliner did not exist, the metal interior roof was just nasty rust, the long 4th of July weekend I worked 2 days removed all the trim, wire brushed and vacuumed for hours, Easton etched and painted the inside of the roof, it came out really good. I'll take some pictures of the install, that will be a big step comming up.

Thanks for looking... tiphat_zpsd31ae088.gif

interested in heading back and picking up that trunk finish panel for me?

Doing some cooling work on the car, I have been getting pretty hot lately, to the point that I just pulled the radiator and am going to replace it with a higher capacity one, another one of my cooling problems was I don't have a fan shroud ( I need some help here).

I bought a Champion 26" core, 3 row, says it cools up to 700hp: http://www.championradiators.com/product/CC375
I should get the radiator next week.

Now I need a shroud, I am totally confused on which one to get, I did email Champion so hopefully I will hear back from them on a shroud model.

I want to run a single 17" belt driven fan.

I was looking at these AllStar Performance Fan Shrouds here:
http://www.summitracing.com/search?...keyword=Allstar Performance Fan Shrouds&dds=1
The 26 1/4 one looks like it might work.

Based on the price I am not sure that is the direction I want to go, anyone using one of these shrouds?

Shroud suggestions/ideas welcome tiphat_zpsd31ae088.gif

Just finished up dynamating my roof, getting ready for headliner install, I am going to have a local upholstery shop install the headliner, I took it by their shop and the guy said he could do a good install for $200, I install the dynamat and will have the felt precut, he will glue in the felt with his super contact cement and install the headliner, I was willing to pull the windows but he said he could do a good job without having to pull them, thats nice not to have to do that. :hello2:

Progress is slow, but steady.

I think I solved my search for a fan shroud for my Champion CC375 radiator, the Mopar performance 26" one that Summit sells should bolt right on.

Here are some pics of my dynamat install.

Nice, looking good. I have been thinking about doing that to my roof before I put in a new headliner.

That dynomat looks good in there. I'm also going to do that with my car when the time comes.

Well, I'd like to say it was my great idea, but actually it was the upholstery guys suggestion, he said he does that on all his old car restos, he then puts down felt and then the headliner comes after that, he also said it helps a ton with noise and temperature.

This is a huge improvement, before it was this nasty flaky rust, I wire brushed it all off, etched it with Easton quick etch and then painted before the dynomat.

Looks good. Your upholstery guy is right. Reduces noise. Also, does wonders for the acoustics in the car if you have any sort of decent stereo. I'd recommend you also do all the floors, doors and inside the forward quarters. You'll be amazed how much it quiets it down inside.

Want to see something Really Cool?

Pun intended...:frog:

Just got my new Champion CC375 26" core aluminum... here's some pics of the test fit.

Oooo... almost forgot, I talked with Mike from MRL performance on the phone today about building a new motor for the Coronet, had a great chat with him, he is building some power house N.B.S. motors right now, I'll be putting one of his motors in this coming winter... my wife isn't reading this forum is she??? Better keep that on the down low for now. hehe

Nice thread..will be keeping an eye on it..

Got the day off from work today! Working on installing a new TF727 tranny cooler, figured I would take the tranny heat out of the new radiator. I bought a Flex-a-lite 3818 from Summit.

I built some brackets out of strap aluminum, it's going to sit between the radiator and grille on the drivers side. I'm off to the the hose store for some new hoses.

Thats a great radiator and with the cooler everything should be problem free, Sounds like a possible beast of an engine maybe going in, Good luck...

With the radiator in and when you get the fan blade installed, it looks like it will be close to draw a lot of air thru it.

Went for a tranny cooler test drive, seems cooler, ran great! Water temp didn't get over 190F , I'm really happy about that. Here's a couple more pics of the cooler install.

I haven't done much with my Coronet lately, been busy at work chasing a new job, my boss retired Wednesday, now I'm the boss! (More money for MOPAR!)

Been cold here too... -16F last night.

I finally ordered the new headliner so I am getting ready for that. I needed to polish up the chrome pillar and liner trim. Here is what I did:

I found this polish that I use on my boat: http://www.iboats.com/Aluminum-Stainless-Chrome-Metal-Polish-Garelick/dm/view_id.163553

Works pretty good...

Trim 3.jpg

First I smear a good layer of the polish on with a rag
Trim 4.jpg

Then I scrub it really well with a little stainless wire brush - sometimes I add some more polish while scubbing.
Trim 5.jpg

I then buff the chrome with a rag and more polish, then remove and buff by hand with a clean microfiber.

Doesn't turn out too bad. These interior A pillar parts are pretty unique and I wanted to preserve the original part as best as I could without spending a bunch on rechroming or replacements.

The polish does not remove the small pitting that you can see in the pics, but it is a huge improvement over the old rusted up version.

I actually like the OEM rustic look myself, I am not going for a show car look here, just the old rustic 67 MOPAR.

I'll be installing the headliner before too long, I'll take some pics of that too.

Thanks for looking.

I ran the same radiator in my 66 and fought cooling issues for 6 months till I bought a griffin. Hope you have better luck.

I was going to drive the car tomorrow to put the front end kit in but it snowed 10" today.

I definitely have my work cut out for me this spring, can't wait to get the motor pulled and bring it over to Jim's shop.

I also have on order a TCI super street fighter TF727, that should show up next week sometime.

All kinds of new goodies. Good deal! Looks like you'll be decking the motor out with some pretty snazy parts. That Coronet is gonna scoot along pretty nice!
