1968 Roadrunner refresher

Put some tail pieces and handles and such on for a good motivating factor last night. Tonight I glued the trunk gasket down and then realigned the trunk and latch assembly.

Did some more work over the past couple weeks. Did the heater box and threw that in and the wiper mechanisms. Got windows all back in and they SUCKED to get the vent windows in place. Was able to get the windows in with the original slides in the front that go into the vent window. What a good time that was. I had my original arm rest bases and gauge surround done by a company in Michigan called https://www.vacuumorna-metal.com. I would highly recommend them as they did a very nice job for not much more than the repop parts woulda cost me. Also got the windshield clips installed and the window felts and door weather stripping. Waiting on the headliner guy this coming week, then I can install the trim, package tray and carpet with the seats and dash. It's coming together quicker than I thought it would and next should be the engine detailing and front suspension which should go quick because I did all the bushings and such a few years back. I didn't bother redoing the heater box and the dash area behind it as the car is all original and is so clean I wanted to leave it alone. Even has the original OK tag on the heater box flapper rod hanging which I put back.

Busted *** last weekend and got the headliner in along with the rest of the trim, gaskets, door panels, arm rests and dash in the car. Spent all Saturday and part of Sunday on the headliner. What a bitch that was man. Guy wanted $500 to install and I just couldn't pay someone to do it, so I manned up and did my own. First half is perfect with some little wrinkles in the rear. Not really a big deal to me as it looks very presentable from outside the car and cost me 6-7 hrs. of my time. The guy was an awesome dude who was supposed to do it for me and sold me the glue really cheap(tried to give me a quart of it but I threw him a $20 for helping me out) That way I had the industrial contact cement I needed. He also gave me some tips and tricks but he was just so busy and kept having to push it off so I decided it was time for me to give it a go. Sunday I painted all the dash components and got everything prepped for assembly. I still had mojo in me yesterday morning, so I dinged in from work and assembled the entire dash and then got it in the car. It's coming along pretty damn nice and I am happy with the results from the weekend. I appreciate those who take so many detailed pictures when they do this, but my phone/camera was on the shelf with Pandora cranking the tunes while I was banging all this out. I'm just happy to capture a few pictures along my adventures doing this. The headliner was my biggest accomplishment as it isn't perfect, but man did that job suck. I wish I could see how they did these in mass production in quicker time. Between the headliners and vinyl tops, that's countless hours I'd love to see in the factory and how they did them all so quick.

Great job Sir, coming along very nicely. I have now attempted several headliner installs and the frustration factor does go down....they get easier and results have gotten more desirable. Looks good.

It really looks good, especially factoring in it was your first one. I used to do these a lot, but if I do another one, and I will, it's gonna feel like a first time for me since it's been so long.

I agree even after the one I know how I would tackle the next a bit different. I am a perfectionist and my buddy told me hes seen worse wrinkles in the "professional install" haha!

Tonight I cleaned the car up from all the assembly and hands on it the last few weeks and did the front grill blackout treatment. I am pleased with it and very pleased with how the car is starting to look coming together.

Fresh EE1 looks great.
I tend to agree. The EE1 from 68 is definitely a bit different from 67 and back. It has more of a blueish/greenish tinge in the sun and a less purple look in the night than the 67 version. I absolutely love this color, and am so glad I stayed with it and paid the big bucks for the PPG version. It's so much more vibrant than the others who tried to match it.

Got the new front brake lines installed and some new decals I received today. Also got the rear seats and package tray installed this week. Spent a few hours cleaning and prepping the rear window to install and tomorrow I will grab the butyl tape to put that in with. Finished tonight up with mirror and sun visor install. Trying to pick away every other night or so on something even if it’s small to keep motivated and moving on it.

Just stunning. What a great job.

Beautiful work, such a great color combination. It's beginning to really pop, with each added detail.

Thanks! Appreciate it......trying to do it on a budget and get most of the details right without going insane and making it non driveable is a task haha!

Thanks Jerry! Appreciate it man! I love this color and with it having the blue guts makes it just a really cool combo. I really can't wait to see it with a turquoise engine instead of it being orange like its been for the past 15 years or so since I bought it. That color on the engine goes well with the dark blue I feel.

Got the engine sprayed last night with the turquoise from Bill Hirsch. Valve covers aren't mint and have a couple battle scars, but will do for now. Overall it looks awesome and the color is spot on. Once it's in the engine bay all fresh, the small **** won't be noticeable by 98% of people, and the other 2% can watch me burn the tires ofF and put rock chips on the quarters haha!

Choose your roads carefully and you will only have to wipe the rubber of the quarters.

Just love this cars color outside! Engine looks great dried too.

The eagle has landed! Spent all day with my old man and got it back where it belongs. Engine and trans is in place, front suspension is all done, and I’m calling it a day. I think it looks awesome!
