1968 Roadrunner refresher

Love that color. The 68 Charger with the white rump stripe is stunning.

Me too! I originally was trying to have Dupont/Axalta match my color and they couldn't even get close so I ended up going with the PPG formula and man am I glad I did. The color is just gorgeous and looks so much better than any spray out of the other brands that tried to match it with the "perfect" camera match. These cameras they have just can't match the tough colors with the flop in the sun aspect. They can get a shade, but they can't get the colors flop if it does so in different lighting. I am so pumped for Saturday when this car is finally all blue and shiny again!

I went with PPG Deltron on my last 2 cars. More expensive than other brands but the color is a lot nicer than Dupont, Martin Senior, etc., imo.

Got it sprayed today! Little bit of dust but turned out amazing!

Got the hood and trunk lined up and mounted last night before I cut and buff it in a week or so.

Been sanding my balls off and had to reclear the front fender as I cut through clear so we are getting there. I hit the hood with the buffer just for some motivation. Hitting the rest of the car with 2000 and 3000 tonight then it’s buffing and polishing time.

Well took me another 6 hours but it’s sanded up to 3000 and buffed! I will final polish it tomorrow maybe if I get time, but man does it shine now!

Well last night I rolled the car into the aluminum stool/platform I was using on the roof to polish, scratched the piss outta the door down the side, and chipped the door when I slammed it in frustration so the car is going back into storage until spring. I am running outta nice weather and winter prep needs to get done. This project has been one step forward 4 steps back for awhile and I need a break before I burn it to the ground. Updates won't be for awhile as its going to a buddies garage to store and get it out of my sight before I stab my tractor forks through it. Progress will happen when I cool down in spring and hopefully gain some steam.

Definitely a bummer man. I like your approach though, step back for awhile and re-group. If this stuff were easy it wouldn't be as worth it, and everyone would be doing it. Absolutely love what you've done so far with it. Rob

That sucks.

Having a painted car is both exciting and scary. Exciting because you can bolt stuff back on the car permanently, scary because it is so easy to damage the fresh paint. But work through the issues and you'll be back on track in no time.

When moving the car, MAKE SURE you have foam or rags or other stuff between trunk, door and hood seams (or even weatherstripping if you got that on the car) before you move it. Trunks, doors and hood will shake and rattle and chip the paint on the edges - ask me how I know...

Good luck and hang in there!

A little break is what I need. I will still restore the dash and the engine over winter just so when the car comes out in spring I can repair the damage, re-clear it, and move along with reassembly. I need to get some coin together anyway for all the little trinkets as those always nickel and dime you to death. If this **** was easy, everyone would do it as my buddy always said!

Well we reshot the areas needed today in base coat then resprayed the car in SPI overall clear coat. Got some dust to wet sand out, but way flatter then the last go round and no runs. Used my buddies makeshift booth and fought the heat today as it was 80 in the shop by the end of our spraying. Double gunned the last coat and got it to lay down wet. Some pics of before and after from the past week or so. Never mind his artwork on my window mask with his air brush haha! He said he had to draw a penis on it somewhere. He’s just jealous being a Chevy guy!:D:D:D

Shame you had to respray the whole thing but it looks like it was worth it. Love the color glad you went back with the original.

Thanks! Yea a lot of little stuff we took care of in the respray. Turned out run free and way better!

Just sucks because now with all the inflation going on and gas through the ROOF, this will stall out my progress a bit. Should have most of the parts though, so hoping to cut and buff this week and then start assembly.

Just wet sanded and buffed the hood tonight and it looks incredible! Super pumped!

That looks awesome making me jealous I want my bird done

Started buffing last night after wetsanding the car all last week. Got the back half buffed. After this I will have to machine polish the car, then start assembling! I also got my headliner in from legendary yesterday so that will be the first piece to go in.

Finished compounding tonight. Next is polishing and then it’s time to start putting some trim and stuff back on and assembly!
