1969 Charger R/T resurrection

Check this out, Love this color combo, the flat black looks really nice with the copper-orange whatever it is.

That color has my vote! Such a badass Charger in general and that gomango really sets it off :icon_thumleft:

Doesn't look like much progress, but it has been very time consuming. We got the major bodywork done on the doors, fenders, hood, deck lid. front valance, and dash frame. We put on 2 coats of epoxy primer tonight and will spray on 2 coats of polyester primer on the exterior sides of these parts tomorrow. They will then be ready for the final block sanding. Getting closer and closer to having to pull the plug on an exterior color.

Looking good Elk,
Say were do you do your painting? Right there in your shop?

Hey Don, we are doing the priming in the garage until the weather warms up. Been keeping the heat at 72*. Open 2 of the big overheads about a foot and use the old broom prop trick to hold open the side door for the custom exhaust fan (4' high velocity barn fan). It actually is working out quite well, but I am not going to paint in here.

It is 42 x 64 with a 12'4' ceiling. It looks like a lot of space now, but when I get my other 2 cars in I wish it was bigger. I moved them to friends garages for the winter while all the welding, grinding, sanding, and priming is going on.

Well it looks enormous to me and would be my dream garage with all that room and the lift and everything ... probably a pretty good idea and good planning on moving the other cars out of the way and sparks etc.

I'm jealous of his progress and his garage.:icon_cry:
I use a similar fan exhaust method myself, but not near that HP..
Hunt,
What kind of primer are you using?
Do you have a plan on the kind of paint you will finish it up with that goes with that primer?
And does the color of the primer matter as to the color of finish?

I am using all Martin Senior (sic?) products simply for the fact that I want the local body shop to spray the exterior in their bake booth. This is the brand they use and I don't want any problems to arise with mixing products. So I am doing what they recommend. They are selling me all the products at their discounted pricing and the shop is only 1/2 mile away from me. We are doing all the filler work on bare metal, spraying 2 coats of epoxy, then 3 coats of polyester on the exterior sides. This will get blocked off to fill in the small imperfections and sanding scratches. Then a tinted (if I can ever decide on a color) primer. This will get blocked to 600 I think. After that a sealer and then the paint and clear. Amazing how it sounds so simple but takes months and months to get done.

We got most of the removable panels sprayed in epoxy and polyester. Dash frame in satin black and splash shields in flat black. I'm finally starting to feel like I am getting somewhere on this project.

Bolted the car back on the rotisserie for the final time. I am having the portable sandblast guy come in a week or so to do the underside, floor pans, engine bay, and trunk. We will then spray a couple coats of epoxy on the entire car. Since this car will be driven a lot, I am thinking I will spray the underside from the firewall back in black except for the wheel wells. I will do this soon after the epoxy goes on so I don't have to scuff all of this. That would save piles of time and sore arms.

Hey Elk,
Great job! Man you are really flying! When do you think you'll be driving it?

Hey Don,
I think it will be quite some time before I am doing burnouts in this thing. Remember I am having a little problem deciding on the color yet.

Well maybe it will come to you in a dream!
Find some mopar car shows and if you see it in the flesh it might help you decide.
There is a great one by me It's called Mopars at the Red Barns it's in July

Wow it's looking really good!

Man she's looking good...really coming together. Get the paint squared away yet?

No decision yet on the color yet Will. We have a big Mopar show coming up the first week of June. My goal is to make a decision after spending the day there. Wishful thinking probably, but I need to choose something because I want it in paint this summer.
