1969 Charger R/T resurrection

Elk, That does look better then new! The dash in these Chargers and 70 RR's are one of the coolest in these Mopars for sure, kind of always wished the 69 had one like them.. You sure are making this car look great.

Thanks Ron, I think they are neat looking also. They sure are a lot more $ to restore than the 69's though.

Thats the truth! There's a whole different style working on one like yours. I never did one like yours but the way there made, i figured as much. Well worth it though looking at it!

Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DSC00496.JPGYour really going to town on the restoration !!!!! Everything looks fantastic. Excellent tip with the card board for lettering. I never had any luck doing letters, so I'll give it a try some time.

The seats came out perfect. You will be very happy with Tri City Plating. They did the bumpers for me on this 70 Challenger.

It won't be too long now !!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is looking great. Thanks for the postings.................

Haha yeah block sanding and bodywork is kinda what I started with as far as working on cars, my chevelle needed a lot of it so I'm comfortable doing it now, just a pain in the *** with all the curves on the Charger Haha.

The dash came out awesome! As far as screws for the faceplates, I found blackened ones that worked perfect in a small rack of interior hardware at my local Napa. Might be worth checking out if you still need them

As usual "great job" the dash looks great as well as the seats. You've gotta be itching to drive it with all of the new goodies.

I agree with both of you. The B body Rallye dash looks so cool especially when new or restored like you just did elk. And they are a lot more $$ to buy pieces for / restore and more to worry about and fix.

I hope the bumpers turn out decent. I did a lot of checking around and they were by far the cheapest and have great reviews on several websites. It will end up costing about $60. more than buying new AMD stuff(which everybody I have talked to says are terrible for the Chargers). Always better to have original parts imo. They are being shipped on Monday so I should get a look at them by Friday.

I ended up blasting and repainting my originals, but that is good to know if I need any others. I never even thought to check for new ones.

Right now I am really itching to get this thing painted, headliner, and vinyl top installed before the snow starts flying around here. The kid figures about 15 hours of final blocking yet, but he is so busy with other things that he hasn't been around for 2.5 months. After the blocking, I still need to make it into a roller so I can get it to the body shop.

Comin right along H2E. Awesome job on the dash. It does look brand new!! And brand new black seats?, Man, that car will be cool in triple black!!

A couple of boxes from Tri-City Plating were dropped off today. They turned out real nice. The only complaint I have is that I sent in the mounting hardware for the bumperettes thinking they might clean that stuff up also. I guess I thought wrong and now nobody seems to know where it is. Here are some before and after shots.

They look great. Hope they find your hardware, but I wouldn't count on it. What did this set you back if I might ask, you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

WOW!!!!!!! Those bumpers are like night and day difference. X2 on hoping you find/get your brackets.

Beautiful, they did a great job on them. I won't ask how much "I've already priced it, ouch" but they sure look great. Can't wait to see it painted.

H2E . . . You've got to love the way they turned out - they look fantastic ! !

Good luck on them finding your hardware . . . got my fingers crossed for you . . .

Each bumper was $325. and each bumperette was $45. for a grand total of $830. Plus shipping of course. This was by far the most economical for rechromes. The cheapest option was new AMD stuff at $774. from Jeff@521 Restorations with our FBBO discount. Sounds like their bumperettes are ok, but the actual bumpers leave much to be desired. Apparently AMD retooled the Charger bumpers because of all the complaints. With the new version supposedly being available this winter. This is what Ted Stephens told me at a car show this past spring anyway.

You are not the only one. lol. Finally got the car off the rotisserie last night so now it feels like things are moving along again.

Very nice Elk and sounds like reasonable prices. Thanks for sharing.

C'mon H2E . . . you're not getting a little excited about getting it painted - no way . . . ( grin ) . . . are we there yet ? ! ? ! ?

That's actually a pretty good price, both places I priced were more than that "way to go".

As of yesterday all the blocking is done on the body of the car, so last night I managed to get it off the rotisserie. Looks like a whole new project after getting it back on the hoist - been awhile.

And today I was able to spend the entire day alone playing in the shop. Rear end, rear shocks, leaf springs, k-frame, steering sector, steering linkage, and started on the front disc conversion. It was a great day and sure nice to be bolting parts back on this thing. Now I am all wore out and need a little break lol.
