1969 Charger R/T resurrection

ILL TELL YOU ONE THING THEY ARE A LOT EASIER TO WORK ON N PARTS ARE CHEAPER.IT SEEMS THAT FOR A TIME PERIOD ALL THESE SMALL BLOCK MOTORS HAD THIS PROBLEM INCLUDING FORD N CHEVY.IT WAS WHEN THEY STATED LONGER LIFE FOR SPARK PLUGS N ALMOST LIKE THERE WAS A HEATING ISSUE ON THE HEADS BECAUSE IT WAS ALMOST LIKE OVER TIME THE PLUGS WOULD WELD THEM SELVE TO THE THREADS.BESIDES MOPARS DONT HAVE TO GO FAR WHEN ALL YOU SEE IS THERE TAILITES:jerk:

And then on top of it I get to hear the kid say "well see, this is why they say Mopar don't go far" - he is a Chevy guy of course.

Could have went 1141 post without hearing that! Oh, well at least we know he's a car guy. A true Chevy monkey would have turned up it's nose at working on a fine Mopar such as yours.

P.S. In case anyone missed this. It's a must to check out.

Even though he prefers Chevy, he hangs around and works with some diehard Mopar guys around here. He's just a car guy down deep and likes to do the best he can on whatever is in front of him at the time. It would actually be boring if he wasn't always joking about other brands of cars, making up songs, bitching about his Polaris snowmobiles, etc.
Speaking of the kid, he stopped over tonight and wet sanded for a couple of hours on the hood. I have never seen this done and just about fainted when the paper hit that nice paint job at first. I got to hear his thoughts again about how these Chargers have to hold the record for the most metal in a quarter. He was really going off on this when doing the bodywork. I think he is just psyching himself up for having to go over them again lol.

Just a quick note on those plugs n use some good antisieze on the threads this should make things easier for next time.just keep the kid pump up n encourage him to start his own mopar project as he does awsume work

Oh, I lathered them up good even though I will never change them again..

The current state of the Charger is not as pretty as it was a week ago. I am sure anxious to see if it transforms into a beauty queen after all this.

RUH ROH H2E . . . I can only imagine what you were thinking when he started sanding on that fine paint job ! ! ! ( YEOW )

Looks like you've made two step backwards . . . so you can make 10 steps forward ! ! ! ( smile )

I just kind of shake my head in disbelief and pretend that it doesn't bother me lol. Right about now it feels like 10 steps back - at least there is still piles of snow everywhere so it's not like this is holding me up from taking it for a spin.

I see a lot of detailing in your future! Cleaning up that compound is a bitch, once its done you be glad you buffed it.

It is hard to see it in that state but from what I've seen in before and afters of a good wet sand from people who know what they're doing the glass finish you'll be left with will put a huge smile on your face.... in the mean time just face away from the car in the shop! lol

I'm not looking . . . I'm not looking . . . I'm not looking . . . Maybe you can you just show us the finished product H2E ? ? ? ? ( LMAO )

Won't be long Elk and the hurt will be turned to joy. As you know, even removing a band-aid has it's pain, but that's forgotten when you see the wound is healed.

As nice as it was looking that must be a little painful to see, but when it's done you will be happy for sure.
I was going to leave mine with some orange peel (more stock looking) but my painter convinced me to sand it, when it was done it was like another paint job, even the color was more alive, well worth it.

were is the black mirror!!!! lol

It's definitely not in my garage LOL. More problems in paradise believe it or not. Everybody involved is getting very frustrated right now. The kid had the car wet sanded last Friday afternoon with 2000. This step actually went very well. We washed, dried, and taped it off to get ready for buffing. He cancelled a snowmobile trip this weekend so he could get the buffing done because he has a lot of other work to do and needs to get this behind him. The paint supply shop talked us into this 3 step 3M system with foam pads. He gets going with this and finds out nothing is happening. So at 5:00 Friday he drives the 30 miles to the supply house to pick up a wool pad per their recommendation. Tries this on Saturday and still no luck. He then goes to his house to grab a bottle of a more aggressive Wizard compound. This along with the wool pad works, but very, very slow. He has about 7 hours on the hood so far. It is about 2/3's done with the most abrasive compound. He is still not happy and says he can still see the wet sanding marks. I can faintly see them while wearing glasses, using a magnifying glass, and shining a bright light on the area. Apparently the Martin Senour clear is very hard and a bear to buff (really nice to find this out now). So today we have to make a decision. Either wet sand the entire car again with 3000 and then 5000. He really doesn't want to do this because it has to be done with a DA and he says it is to easy to pick up something in the pad and leave swirl marks. Or spend 70-80 more hours buffing the way it is. As of now I am leaning this way because the car is a driver and the decision to buff in the first place was to remove orange peel (which is gone now). So this is my dilemma at this point. Either way is will take a lot of time which he really doesn't have to give right now.

Man Elk very sorry to hear about your troubles but the part that is done looks awesome! You sure have a good man working for you.

Sounds like this guy has your best interests in mind and wants to be both of you to be happy with the finished product... I would go with his gut feeling... If he thinks it better to go with continuing instead of risking the 3000 and then 5000 it makes good sense.

And Tallhair is right the finished hood section does look really good!
