Just a quick update. My Last pictures were under "Thanks for having me" and was the etching primer stage. I just got done block sanding after spraying 2k Urethene primer, Speedoprime... That dust seems worse than Bondo dust! After seeing that stuff dry in the paint cup, it hardened like pieces of plastic. Weird and cool! Should hide many a scratch. Bodyfiller in a spray. Today I lined up and finally had to shim the driver door to line up the lower marks for the side moldings....I then marked holes where the GTX side moldings will go along the new quarters, after a lot of measuring. I also Touched up some bare spots where I sanded through with more primer..Driver fender looks better and was total scrap to begin with. Should have been junked.

I am thinking another recoat to use up the remaining primer and get rid of as many small pesky scratches as possible? Then another block sand.

This is my first real restoration from a bare shell. Car is going to be 99k type black. Time to spend with the wife now to make up!:argue:

69 gtx restoration moving along..(continued from 5/12)

Some of the latest pictures from my restoration. I farmed out the paint to Maaco. They do a lot of cars and did a good job. Installed a left door seal last evening, but it is making the door bind up now. Told to use some Vaseline. Slowly but surely...

Looks terrific and that tail panel is what a lot of people will be seeing i'm sure.

Hopefully just belly buttons and ovals! I built the motor to appear stock, with stock exhaust manifolds and 2.5 TTI "X" exhaust system. However, the heads are shaved about .070. I installed 2.14 and 1.81 valves in 452 heads. I did a port job as well myself. 6 pack pistons that go Zero deck. A "stock" Bullet brand cam as well. Pulls 200lbs compression so premium mixed with race gas is going to be spendy. I have Magnum 500 rims and tires it will be running. 4:10 8 3/4 and low stall converter due to the excessive torque going out to skinny tires. I am looking for mid 13's. 1/4 mile.

Used the vaseline on door weatherstrip last evening. Already began softening the Soft Seal gaskets. Also installed a 69 Plymouth radio and speaker last night. Factory didn't allow much room between a factory speaker and the radio! Just enough room. Glad to do this before the carpet and seats!

installed the trunk weatherstrip as well with 3M weatherstrip adhesive.

I then installed "Air Grabber" screens in my hood inserts. I realized the old gaskets were garbage, so the inserts are sitting..and I ordered correct gaskets...now I must wait a few days for those to arrive.

You guys looking for good painters and quality paint at good prices, I recommend Maaco. They use Dupont paint. They had to fix a bugalloo'd left front fender for me after I ran my 71 Ski Doo TNT into it this winter goofing off. Cost me an extra 8 hours. They did my sealer, touch up sanding, and paint for 2000.00. I didnt have them sand the paint. I am just going to use some wax after 30 days and call it good.

Installed the hood latch last night.................and the front turn signal indicators in the fenders...........Documenting as I go.

Over the weekend, I installed the grill, antenna, and carpet. What's left? The side chrome trim, seats, interior panels, front and rear bumpers and chrome exhaust tips. Then comes new rubber brake lines and bleeding the brakes.

That's a good look'in can of Whoopass right there. :headbang:

Nice job!

I installed the hood inserts last evening. Also bolted down the sill plates. Next comes interior panels and then the seats.

Seats in yesterday. Using a solder iron works nifty to burn bolt holes. I first used a 10d nail to go thru the bolt holes from underneath the car. Then used solder iron were nail stuck thru the carpet. Makes a quick mess free hole. No need to cut an "x" first.

Remaining: side trim pieces to be mounted on the doors..I ordered some new real trim clips that mount with a nut inside the doors..before installing the door trim...The plastic clips that came with the trim set is absolute junk! Get the rest of the trim on the car and then the bumpers. Then, new rubber brake lines, and good to go..

Mosquitoes just started coming out Sunday and yesterday here in Minny....Had about a good 4 weeks since the last snow until the bugs and the humidity....Good ole Minnesota!!

Ni Minnessota Guy, looking pretty good. Seems like you're on the home stretch, nearly done. Time for some outdoors on-the-road shots next.
