1969 GTX....The T stands for tetanus

I think my brake situation is fixed. Got around to bleeding them again and the pedal has remained firm. Here is my one man bleeder kit. Works soooooo much better than the vacuum bleed for me. One way check valve is off amazon and made for diesel cars. Fluid and air go out but can't get back in.

For my master cylinder, I bought one of the new bolt down flat top units and re-used my old top and hold down. Drilled the holes larger in the lid and hold down as the new one is bigger. Used a hole punch to open up the hole in the rubber seal. Looks stock-ish :)

That is a good idea, I like it.

I am kind of bored today so I just tinkered around. Put the fender mounted turn signals in, made new gaskets from an old innertube. I also installed the side mirror.

And a post by Showard got me thinking about my floor shifter. It had a ton of lateral movement, so I pulled it out to take a look. There was a hairline crack in the lugs but that wasn't the issue. Problem was the plastic bushings were worn. So I adapted and overcame.

I welded the crack and used some spare hinge pin bushings to fix the slop. They are undersized on the i.d. so I cut them lengthwise and opened them up to go on the pivot shaft. Now on the shifter, the holes needed opened up a taste so I dremeled them ever so slightly to get a tight fit. Greased everything and assembled. It is very crisp, no lateral movent!

I was on the phone with 440 Source getting some info and decided to get the Stealth heads. Once they get here I will take them over to the machine shop and have them check the deck for flatness, valve seats for runout and have him set up the valve springs and order the correct springs for my cam. Moving along.

I have heard from several sources that the retainers & locks are suspect. Have your guy take a good look at them. You don't want to drop a valve.

The retainers and locks are Comp Cam pieces, I know they had issues in the past. I'm going with new 10 degree locks and retainers rated for .500" lift and better. Springs are getting replaced as well with ones that match my cam

They just got here!!!! Pulled them both out and looked them over and I am happy for what I paid. Springs, keepers, and retainers are a wash as they will be replaced so maybe I can sell them on here. Keepers are green dyed but suppose to be Comp Cam 7* pieces. Casting looks clean, there are a few spots in the bowl transition area I will need to clean up as there are a few sharp transitions. Deck surface looks to be flat with a straight edge applied.

I'll pull the springs and valves to check out the seals and look for runout in the guides before I clean the ports up. Then it is off to the machine shop for a valve job and to get the correct springs installed and dialed in.

You might throw a rocker on and check pushrod clearance if you can. Would be better now before final head assembly.

Thanks. That is what they told me at 440 Source. I guess the pushrod hole may need some grinding to keep it from hitting. I need to mock up everything before assembly anyway to check for valve relief. I just ordered my rocker arms... EDIT, just canceled my rocker arm order. The PRWs were backordered and i had read enough bad reviews to steer clear. So I am back on the hunt for rocker arms...

forgive me being too lazy to backtrack but what are the stats on the motor, I'm very jealous already. 440 source stroker?

Stock stroke 440, bored .040"
KB237 flat top pistons
Stock rods, floated pins, ARP cap bolts
Forged crank, polished
10.5:1 cr
Hughes solid lifter cam, 238/242, .558" lift, 105*cl
440Source Stealth Heads, going to clean up ports and bowls, port match to intake, set up valve height and valve job.
Going with a Holley Street Dominator intake
Jegs 1 7/8" ceramic coated headers
850cfm carb to be determined.

The motor is trying to put me in the poor house. Just ordered the correct springs and machined valve locks from Hughes.

Waiting around on engine parts, not much to do so Tinkering with brackets and such. Once I get my rockers, I'll measure the pushrod length and order a set. Then I can check valve clearance and pushrod clearance. Then I can replace the springs, measure installed height and get things torqued down and set the lash.

I am going to break the cam in with the outer 440 Source spring only, then swap them for the full flavor ones after the first oil change. And I still need to get Cometic head gaskets, frickin things are $80 a piece!

Man that is one beastly looking motor:thumbsup:

Sweeeeet!

Thanks, it is getting there. I plan to paint the entire thing hemi orange, aluminum and all so it looks kind of stock. Part of me wishes I just built a stock motor as it would be much less of a headache.

I am still loving your build thread! So much going into that beauty.

Thanks I appreciate that......That headache will be cured when that B##ch fires up! I love the fact you are going to sleeper it by spraying it all orange!

This will be a smoking ride when it is finished!

I was tempted to do the sleeper thing too, but figured the six pack hood was a give away anyway. If you're going to use a mini starter now would be a good time to test fit it. I had to tweak mine a little.

I don't have my headers yet but I do have the starter. Is there an issue hitting the block? It mounts to the transmission correct?

Doing the sleeper look is easier too. I don't have to worry about masking anything, just bolt everything on and paint.
