1969 GTX....The T stands for tetanus

Valve body is finished. The TF2 kit is very simple and has good directions. They give you a couple of options depending on how aggressive you want the shifts.

2nd gear chirp? I have a question, what is used for the cross hardware that hold the spare tire hold down eyebolt? Is it a bolt or pin with cotter key?

It should chirp now lol.

It is suppose to be a smooth cross pin with washer and cotter pin.

Finally got time to start breaking the trans down. I am leaving the overrun clutch outer race in the case and replacing the guts. Everything looks great except the underside of the stator housing, cannot tell if it was a machining flaw or trash. Two swipes in the end of the channel. Pump looks fine. Bushings all look great too. Plus 4 friction front and rear with 4 pinion planetaries.

I work midnights right now so that is considered afternoon for me lol. And I am on AZ time. My neighbors must wonder about all the grinding, banging and cussin coming from my garage during the night lol.

Saw your new posts, looks fantastic. Dang I love those rockers, but I will probably end up getting a set Mancini sells that doesn't make my wallet stroke out.

Yeah when I worked 2nd 2 pm-11 my neighbor's never knew if I was coming or going. Sometimes I worked till sunrise or would go to bed and be up at 6 banging away...

The joys of being single! I used to paint my motorcycle case the bake them in the oven. Where's the pop up thermometer???

And I have to wait for more parts. The solid red band that I ordered showed up and it is kevlar so it is going back. Should have ordered from Cope to begin with.

Just talked to him at lunch break.

Putting the new servos and accumulator back in. The accumulator is a funny beast and comes in several variations of which are all correct. Some have top spring only, some have bottom spring only. Some have top and bottom spring whereas others have no springs. Thanks Mopar! Mine had no springs and a factory tube installed to keep it from moving up or down in the bore so i re-installed as is. The billet servos are plug and play. I contacted the manufacturer and he said to use the spring he provided as opposed to the spring provided in the TF-2 kit. My assembly lube is good old petroleum jelly.

Moved on and installed the tail shaft support. 4 bolts hold this on and if you use a bolt-in sprag the same bolt holes are used to bolt it in. I just replaced the rollers and springs on mine and re-staked the outer ring to make sure it stays tight. Put the rollers in first then add the springs between the rollers and tabs. Once this is done and before the rear planetary set is installed don't bang the case around otherwise these will fall out.

And then I re-installed the servo levers. Pro tip....on the rear pivot there is an o-ring on the pin that seals the pin to the case. This is a very common leak spot and only accessible when the tailhousing is removed. On my last transmission build it still dripped fluid even after the ring was replaced, among other places. My fix was using some permatex aircraft sealant. No leaks and have used it since. The trans in my 62 has been leak free for a year.

Got the planetaries in, front/rear drums packs. Replaced 2 of the thrust washers, difference is +.002" overall. Still waiting on my governor from A&A (love their stuff but it seems they still ship stagecoach lol). And waiting on my solid kickdown band so I am at a standstill. I will clean up the tailhousing and rebush the yoke support but yhat is about it. Oh. How do you like my transmission holder?lol This trans had an inspection hole up top that was meant for hanging.

Tailshaft cleaned up, new bushing and rear seal installed. Permatex also used on the mating surface of the rear seal.

awesome work. do you have any transmission experience? or is this one of those couple youtube videos, and a couple 12 packs kind of trans rebuild? i know they arnt necessarily difficult, just more so intimidating for the average folks. and if you take your time and pay attention it should go smoothly. before watching you do it, i dont think i wouldve attempted it. but if your answer was youtube and beers, it may be worth a shot. if your answer was "i come from three generations of transmission shop owners but i work border patrol because its a heck of a lot cooler" then i know i probably shouldnt attempt it on mine. haha.
