1969 GTX....The T stands for tetanus

I was bored so i pulled the valve covers and lashed the valves. The heads seem to be getting plenty of oil, no other issues. There were a few valves that needed a tweek but nothing substantial. While I had the valve covers off I checked rocker shaft caps torque and inspected the keepers. Again, everything is good. I did have to tighten the header bolts.

On the valve covers, especially the aluminum ones, I apply the gasket to the cover side via Permatex High Tack. Keeps it from squishing out and makes it easy to remove the covers to set lash.

Done.

I have some Gibbs Driven oil on the way (sale at Summit) along with a filter so the oil is going to be changed this Tuesday.

I almost forgot, a few days ago I got on it getting onto the freeway, the speedo needle wigged out and bounced around until it ended up here. I am really not in the mood to pull the dash, again.

Well you know it's not the speedo cable! IT never stops!

Yup. Dicks in Tempe (not Phoenix) will fix that right up. The plastic keepers are broken. Think it was $180.

Video of a few pulls from a roll on my new camera. These mountable cameras are neat. I wanted to see if the suspension was lifting like it is suppose to. It looks like it is.

You neighbors are really gonna start loving you. :)

They'll get over it. And if they call the cops they will never find me because he keeps calling it a GTO lol. I'm going to swap the rear tires out and burn up the skinny ones tomorrow.

Before I took it out I re adjusted the steering box. It had been a little loose so I backed off the top adjuster and re adjusted the worm shaft (big nut) and then did the sector shaft ( small flathead / nut). It feels much better now.
I also set the suspension up a little better after reading through the chassis manual. The car was heading to the left so I loosened the driver torsion bar and tighted the pass torsion bar which leaned the car to the driver side by 3/4" loading the left rear. After the pulls from a roll it tracked much straighter.

I have lost my only 318 buddy to "more power".... sigh.... alone again :)

Lol. Well, I couldn't do as nice a restore as you did so I made up for the roughness with more displacement. My paint is so friendly it waves lol.

And I will never get rid of my poly 318 Plymouth, it is family.

Makes me want to strap my $1500 Nikon to the bottom of the Coronet. :)

Do it!!!!!!!!
Lol, I am using a go pro knockoff I found on Amazon for $50 and a screw clamp mount. I need to get some shots from the interior as well.

I got some bourbon in me last night so I dropped the tank to adjust the float. Another great asset to having an electric pump is draining the tank. Stick the outlet hose in a can and flip the switch. I estimated about 5 gallons left which is what came out. Gauge read well past E at this point.

Pulled the sender and adjusted the arm down. I had to modify the bends but did get it to drop lower. Maxed out it is 74.2 and that is all it has. On my gauge this reads as a sliver lower than E...perfect.

Reinstalled the tank, hooked up the sender to verify. Then I added back my 5 gallons. This took it to about 1/8 tank. Added another 5 gallons of Sunoco 110 which brought it to 1/4. Took it to the gas station and topped it off. A tick north of Full. Perfect!!!!

So 1/4 tank is 10 gallons. Not really linear but I know my range once I reach it. And I'm really happy about seeing the needle at full for a change.

I was having issues with the Meter Match throwing off my temp gauge and it kept needing adjustment like it wouldn't hold the setting. May have something to do with power through the vr.

And I got the speedo fixed. Pulling the dash os easy but a huge pain, my biggest worry was more random electrical gremlins but it worked out.

The speedo spring housing was loose so it shifted the needle around the gauge. There are 2 tabs on the gauge face, one of which I used as a stop and set the spring and reset the needle on the 0 stop. In hindsight, I probably could have slapped it in to check accuracy but I didn't. So at speed, the gauge was reading 12-15 mph lower than gps mph. So I finally got and installed a smaller speedo pinion (went from 35 to 30). I'll test it tomorrow for accuracy.

Got lucky on that one. I tried that as well but it only worked for a few miles.
