1969 GTX....The T stands for tetanus

Well, it is on and fitted to the best of my abilities. The side to side gap is a little off with the pass side being pretty straight but the driver side with a larger gap near the grill. Also, the cowl to hood gap is tight on driver and loose on pass side. I shimmed the pass side hinge to give it a more respectable gap. Another issue was where the stock hood latch hardware was placed. The release will not work where it is placed without modification to the release. The hold down worked with some tweaking of the shape.

This is how far off the release is...

But with the hood pins and latch assembly it should be sufficient to hold it in place.

I need to pull it all back off and prep for primer and paint.

G—D—- it! Have at it, I guess. Nuthin is correct anymore!

Yea, lot of money for made in the USA parts that need more work to fit correctly out of the box. I think it looks fine though and exactly the look I want.

Totally worth it!
I need Bill to get my radio fixed so I can have some sweet am music to cruise with.
It's playing right now, but not letting it go until it passes my refrigerator test and long distance reception test.

Mark is the hood going to be black or silver?

Painted it. Used SPI black epoxy with flatener. Let the epoxy sit over 4 hours to get incressed uv protection per Barry. The heat played hell getting it on even. My final coat was sprayed with air pressure lowered and increased distance to the hood to create texture. It worked pretty good, almost too good. It marks up easily but it is flat.

Next step is sealing the carb to the scoop.

18x3 aluminum baking pan and I have some bulb weatherstripping going on the top to seal it to the hood.

I noticed that about mine. I'm going to repaint it. Seems like just dragging your finger on it leaves a mark. Also from the old days I remember water spots being a pain.
It looks good though!
Pan looks like a good idea.
Maybe one of the filtered lids might help airflow on your set up.....

It reminds me of a chalkboard but feels a bit more textured. I like it, not sure I want to repaint though. It has that been there, done that look because of the faint marks.

On the pan, I have never liked the look of top filtered air cleaner lids. After reading up on sealing the hood, it should be able to draw plenty of air. It is not ram air but will pull cool outside air in instead of engine compartment.

Could always go with a 3" tall element....more filter less restriction.

I have the pan riveted to the cleaner base. I still need to scribe and cut the hood lines to the pan to fit pretty close before I add on the bulb weatherstripping. I definitely don't think a 3" tall element would hurt.

Did it come with the opening, or did you have to cut it? The hood, that is.

It seals pretty good to the hood considering it is home made. And I already have a 3" air cleaner so I ordered a 4" Wix.
