1970 Plymouth Sport Fury GT V Code 440-6 Barn Find

Watched the video earlier today. Certainly one of the most interesting Mopars made and a car that’s intrigued me since I was a teenager in the late 70s. I saw the 440 6 barrel shown as Fury GT option in the 70 RTS ad and wondered then if any actually were built. Then in the 80s I read a few accounts of people who remembered seeing a few scrapped in junkyards
It wasn’t until 20 or 25 years ago I saw pictures of a couple but they were basket cases. The blue one a guy in Canada restored is the only nice complete one I ever saw, not all that long ago when it hit the show circuit, so this one Tom now has got in his shop is only the second decent example I’ve seen in my 45+ years as a Mopar enthusiast!
 
That has a cool factor x 10.

My friend, Dave's, V-code from Ontario. He has had it at MCACN a couple of times. Rescued from a wrecking yard in Buffalo.

I had a NOS hood for one of those in the late 90s. Couldn't give the thing away. Ended up using it as a sled to pull firewood out of the back 40. Then scrapped it. Oops!
 
If I remember correctly there were only like eleven or fifteen V code Sport Fury GT cars built in 1970. There was a guy named Dan in Washington State who had three of them. They all needed to be restored.
 
Tom provided the numbers in the video. He said 66 built for the US market and 3 for Canada.
He said 10 are known to exist now. The blue one is the only one I’ve seen restored, and this one Tom is working on is pretty decent and complete. I wonder if any of the remaining 8 known examples are in good shape or if they are projects?
 
He said in the video what it was. From memory without watching the video again, there was normally a heat shield or stove installed the exhaust manifold to direct hot air into the air cleaner snorkel on C body 4 barrel cars, but since there is no provision for using the heated air with the 6 barrel air cleaner assembly, that component was not installed on the V codes.
 
I think on 4- barrel cars, there could be a sheet metal "stove" that goes over there to provide heat to the air cleaner snorkle. It would help the auto choke to come off faster. An emissions thing. The driver's side exhaust manifold is unique to C-body cars.
 
My goodness they don't make cars like that anymore. Need room for a family ? No climbing in a convoluted folding rear seat, just hop in the back. Easy room for 3 with plenty of trunk space.

Dan had two black ones and a yellow one if I remember correctly. The black ones were in rough shape,one was crashed pretty hard. The yellow one looked complete,needing restoration.

I know that 1 is a project, which is a black one with orange stripes. I know the owner, he is from NY. 1 is getting restored by a well known C-body collector (who also owns the 1 of 1 Hurst 300 convertible) in WA which I believe is another black one, and another FK3 orange one is restored and is owned by a well known 1970-1971 Sport Fury GT collector from Minnesota.
