Thanks. It is a new sensor but I haven't spent any time inside the car just yet but will.I did test it to ground and nothing so I need to dig into the cluster.You can check the gauge by quickly grounding the sensor wire. If the gauge goes to hot it is working and probably the sender. Don't keep it grounded or you can fry the gauge, just a few seconds.

There is an electronic gauge voltage regulator mod you can do to replace the points style unit, makes the gauges rock steady.

I did this on my 62 and it is going strong. Your 3 prong setup looks the same. I found my parts at Mouser. I used some old pistol brass flattened out for the plug in connectors.
