1971 383?

Hello I'm a new member, looking for some info. I have a {I believe} 1971 383, It's stamped G383, 8-12, HP.
The cam in it is a 574, which I think is the Hi Perf cam, 346 heads, 4734-S carb. What I'm interested in is
what this engine was originally factory installed in. I removed it from a 1966 Chrysler New Yorker which should
have had a first year 440. The number on the right pan rail is {1B105531}. Hopefully someone can tell me
what it was originally in. This engine has never been apart from what I can tell---ripe with varnish smell
from setting.

This is most likely from a 71 barracuda or challenger. 1B is 1971 Hamtramack plant. A bodies and E bodies were built at Hamtramack and a-bodies did not have big blocks in 71.

Thank you---I was really wondering what it came out of. I'm assuming it was wrecked early in life because the
crank is real nice shape & bore measures 4.253, very little ridge. So I don't think it was a high mileage engine.

Welcome! What B-Body are you going to put the engine in?
 
Yes the 2bbls had cast cranks. Or some, towards end of production.

The valve covers if original, might shed light on which car it's from.
 
It has a steel crank--obvious by machining and it has a nice ring to it. I ran a Van Norman 448 crank grinder years ago.
Only photo I have right now when it was still setting in the 66 New Yorker.

The well varnished parts and pieces from setting 40 years. Plus I have the pick of a bunch of
other B/RB engines, 3-440's, 2-413's, 2-400's and a several 727's.

Ran a flex hone through bores to get a better view and remeasured--in real nice condition along with the crank.
Crank measured on the high side of tolerance on every journal, really in premium condition for the oil used and
filtration back then. Even though I removed a cheap $1.50 Coast to Coast oil filter from it. So I will get the stock
iron 346 heads rebuilt with hard seats, std main & rod bearings, re-ring it, HV std pressure pump, double roller
chain & gears, send the 574 cam to Delta cam in Tacoma and have the same one dressed, top it with a Eddy DP4B
intake and 650 AVS carb, and rebuild a 727 for it. I have a 81 D150 long box that was given to me to set it in, plus
a 440 with a pan, mounts and few other items. I would put it in a car but those are rather hard to come by.
Coast to Coast hasn't been in business since 1990.
