1971 440 thermostat replacement temperature?

Bob,
It is an industry 'standard'. Same as quoted oil viscosity numbers...& many other things. Do people get a lab check of the oil viscosity before using the oil??
If what you are suggesting is correct, EVERY t'stat would need to be temperature tested BEFORE using it....would be a looooong queue on the automobile assembly lines.

The individual thermostats are tested by the manufacturer as part of their Q.C. Program before shipping either lot tested or individually tested ......something every manufacturer has and documented.....this is fundamental

180 in all my Mopars along with a good 7 blade fan w/ clutch, shroud, rad and water pump. It is a package deal not just one thing to make your engine run at the proper temp.
