Just had my 727 Torqueflite transmission rebuilt professionally at rincon transmission. I had put in a shift kit prior to the rebuild. The rebuilder said he did not mess with the valve body. So my shift kit should still be in there.

When I got the car back, it is a bit sluggish and shifts like a puss, feels like it's slowing me down. When i get up into the rpms I smell over heating tranny.

I checked the tranny fluid and it was about a inch over full. I'm going to remove some fluid after i post this and see if it works, i've also heard that the wrong tranny fluid type can also be a problem?

Please, any feed back a fast as possible is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jake (Mopar-Charger)

Good to hear. This does not explain the transmission being OVERfull.
I had a 727 rebuilt several years ago. I didn't use it right away because I was in the process of moving. When I did swap it in, it started acting up right away. It slipped like I was on greased ice. It upshifted harshly even on light throttle. I checked the fluid and found it was almost 2 quarts OVERfull even though it read normal before. I drained some ATF out and drove it again. In park, it acted as if it were in gear and power braking. I pulled it and sent it back. The man said it was so AFU that he just rebuilt another case. Mine had a burned out front pump and clutches that were welded to the case. Virtually nothing was rebuildable from the trans.
My point? The raised fluid level was telling me that the front pump was failing. No pump action=fluid level raised since it wasn't circulating.
Hope yours was just accidently over filled.

I did the same as you, pumped some out, messed with the throttle linkage. She shifts fine in manual, but harshly shifts up on slow throttle. The car Jolts, and acts like it wants to stop before moving on.

While in manual, and I get on a bit, when i shift into second its like butter. I installed a TCI Racing shift kit, but after the rebuild I don't even know it's there. To be honest, She drove better before the rebuild, hard shifts, more response.

I hope it's not the pump failing. I do have a 3 year warranty. So if all goes bad I can just send it back in and they repair it for free.

Thanks for your input, the car doesn't want to move in park (a good sign). A-727 Torqueflites I've heard some great and some bad stuff about them. With a little bit of tweak you can make your car run from a granny to a racing.

I might just throw in a reverse manual valve body. But that's to come later.

Thanks again,

Jake

The pump is a gear rotor type. It will either work or the ears that drive the inner rotor will be broken off, there is no in between. A properly assembled 727 will take 700HP easy. Rebuilds aren't rocket science, they're very straight forward. Proper throttle pressure geometry and adjustment are critical. Is the correct linkage in place? has the car been modified from a 2 Barrel? Is it now a Holley carb? All these items affect throttle pressure linkage geometry. If the trans was "professionally built" I would contact your builder and have him go through the adjustment process with you. Does the TCI kit you installed previously have any internal trans modifications needed?

650 edelbrock. I believe the engine was a Crate engine. I don't believe there was any change from 2 barrel to 4 barrel. I don't know what the previous owners have done. jThe throttle linkage is simple. The carb moves, moving the throttle linkage. When the guy rebuilt my tranny he put a bolt in the linkage. when i drove it i was unable to get WOT because when the throttle linkage at the tranny was all the back, the carb wasn't WOT. I tinkered with it, the tranny still shifts really early. About the TCI Kit, it just came with a few springs, told me to widen some holes in the valve body. I can post some pictures if you need me to?

It sounds like the geometry of your linkage is incorrect. It is simple, linkage should be all the way forward at the idle position. And all the way back at WOT. If not its wrong. Shifting early at part throttle is usually a sign of incorrect linkage, though the governor plays a part as well. If it shifts early at WOT that is usually a governor issue. The TCI kit required no internal mods to the trans itself?

WOT the car shifts at around 4,000 RPMs which is fine, but the shifting early is still a problem. The TCI kit didn't require and internal mods it was just a few springs and the rod that goes into the valvebody. The one that looks like this (==|==|==| clicked everytime it moved once. I'll find a picture just give me till the morning.
