A person can order two 400 v8 engines in 77. But the N code is on both cars. Your fender tag will show if the higher horse power engine was ordered.The same with the 9 1/4 rear. It was a 3:21 limited slip option, and the transmission then was non lockup 727 HP. if the tow package was ordered, then these options became standard,as well as heavy duty brakes.
my Cordoba was ordered this way, as well as 100 amp alternator, P.S oil cooler, and transmission oil cooler, no vinyl top.
OOPs, I stand corrected, the HP 400 was a P designation.

It's not an issue of 'ordered' or not. Both versions of the 400 were not available in all states. So which 400 came in the car was contingent on other factors.

I had a 77 fury with a 360 - 2 bbl with a tow package.
It had a 9-1/4" 3:21 but it was not limited slip I changed the gears to a 2:71 to improve the highway mileage.
100 amp alternator, power steering cooler, transmission cooler and heavy brakes.
It had a double steel gear timing chain.
I believe it was a Canadian built car.

The person who ordered the Cordoba was a Pastor in Houston, Texas, and all his friends were DPS officers, I was told. so he wanted a Cordoba Police car.
The only option not allowed was a spotlight,,,and police cars didn't have floor console or Bucket seats.
The Interesting tidbit was the buyer was trading in a 1970 Roadrunner, so he Insisted the roadrunner Decals and Insignias be Installed on the Cordoba at the dealer,,,,, to this day they are still on this car. 37,699 or so actual miles, all driven in Texas.

I know its a Cordoba, but my 77 has a 400-4 and came with an 8 1/4 rear. It was a open rear with 2.45 gears.
