Just like the past three years, we're going to treat the 2015 NASCAR All-Star Race next Friday and Saturday (May 15-16) just like a normal weekend NASCAR race but with more bonus point opportunity.

All picks for both Saturday qualifying and race events must be posted Friday, May 15th, before the Sprint Showdown television coverage starts on Fox Sports 1 at 7:00PM EDT (4:00PM PDT).

Here's the weekend schedule:

Friday, May 16 -
* The Sprint Showdown is a 40-lap event for those drivers who aren't in the All-Star race. The top two finishers in the Showdown plus the fan vote winner advance to the all-star race and will participate in qualifying Saturday (previously they just started in the rear for the All-Star race).
* The winner of the 2014 Sprint Fan Vote will be announced in Victory Lane after the conclusion of the Sprint Showdown on Friday, May 16. In addition to accumulating the most votes, a Sprint Fan Vote-eligible driver must also finish the Sprint Showdown qualifying race with a car in "raceable" condition (as determined by NASCAR Competition) to earn a spot in the race field.

Saturday, May 17 -
* Drivers and teams will turn their attention to the most highly-anticipated qualifying run of the season, a timed run of three laps including a mandatory four-tire pit stop with no pit road speed limit. With the new schedule, the Sprint Showdown winner and second place finisher as well as the Sprint Fan Vote winner will make qualifying runs.

The 2014 All-Star race format is four 25-lap segments leading up to a 10-lap sprint final segment. The running order at the completion of the 4th 20-lap segment will be repositioned based on the average finish for the first four (4) segments directly behind the caution car prior to the opening of pit road for the mandatory 4-tire pit stop. The order of cars returning to the track will determine the starting order of the 5th (final) segment. Running order ties will be broken by the finish of the fourth segment. Going to be interesting.

So, how are points going to work? Pick two drivers as always - driver picks are for the Saturday night qualifying and All Star Race only, you are not picking drivers for the Sprint Showdown on Friday.
All game scoring will be based on All Star Race qualifying and finish position only.
But you can pick a driver that is driving in the Friday night Sprint Showdown if you think they will be one of the two drivers from either the Sprint Showdown, or will be the fan vote winner, and advance to the Saturday All Star Race.
If your driver wins the final 10-lap segment of the All Star Race you'll get a -5 bonus, 2nd-place driver pick will get a -3 point bonus. Also, the driver pick winning each 20-lap segment of the All Star Race will get a -1 point bonus. If the same driver pick wins multiple 20-lap segments they'll get a -1 point bonus for each.
As always, finishing positions from the All Star Race for your driver picks will be averaged. But not all current drivers will be starting the 90-lap All-Star race and some may get knocked out due to accidents or mechanical problems during the four 20-lap segments.
Only 19 drivers will start the All-Star race event, including the Fan Vote Winner and the winner and runner up from the 40-lap Sprint Showdown preliminary race.
Any driver pick not starting the final 10-lap segment will have their final position counted as one more than the final segment starting car count.

Example: 6 cars get knocked out during the 4 20-lap segments and only 13 cars start the final 10-lap sprint. Any driver not starting the final segment will be counted with an 14th-position finish. If you pick a driver that doesn't make it out of the Sprint Showdown, you'll also get an 14th position finish.

No picks at all will be counted as 19 points rather than 43 since only 19 cars will be starting the All-Star Race segments.

Whew! Too much thinking! I've got a headache again - just like last year.

Here's the list of drivers guaranteed entry to the All-Star Race. They'll be joined by the Fan Vote Winner and the Winner and Runner-Up of the Sprint Showdown.

#1 Jamie McMurray
#2 Brad Keselowski
#4 Kevin Harvick
#5 Kasey Kahne
#11 Denny Hamlin
#14 Tony Stewart
#18 Kyle Busch
#19 Carl Edwards
#20 Matt Kenseth
#22 Joey Logano
#24 Jeff Gordon
#31 Ryan Newman
#41 Kurt Busch
#43 Aric Almirola
#47 A.J. Allmendinger
#48 Jimmie Johnson
#88 Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Pick any driver not on the above list and double any bonus points earned by that driver. You could get -10 points for an event win, -6 points for an event runner-up, -2 points for any 20-lap segment wins and -2 points for qualifying.
Not interested in any driver except for those already locked in, you say? How about #3 Austin Dillon, #10 Danica Patrick, #42 Kyle Larson or #78 Martin Truex Jr.? Either one of them or any other non-qualified NASCAR driver could easily win either the Sprint Showdown or the Fan Vote on Friday night. Pick a non-qualified driver and possibly earn double bonus points.
So, do you feel lucky? Well, do you?

All picks for both Saturday qualifying and race events must be posted Friday, May 16th, before the Sprint Showdown television coverage starts on Fox Sports 1 at 7:00PM EDT (4:00PM PDT).

Vote for your favorite driver if he's not already in the set field and try to get him in via the Sprint Fan Vote.

Good luck all! Let me know if you have any questions.

I'll stick with my locked in picks
Joey Logano & Kevin Harvick

good luck everyone

88 and 5 for me. Thanks.

Hey all -
I will post the results from the All-Star race at Charlotte after I get home from work tonight.
Sorry for the delay. Our Inland Mopars Car Club 15th annual charity-benefit car show was last Sunday and, after working Saturday to get everything ready for the show and then getting up at 3:45AM Sunday morning and not getting home until after 7:00PM, I didn't finish watching the recorded TV coverage until last night.
Check back later for the updated standings.

I don't know if there was any confusion for the Sprint All-Star race last weekend with some players possibly thinking it was an optional event. Regular weekly players DFootCuda (FABO), stroked340 (FABO) and paulyv.100 (FABO) did not make picks for this race. Rather than penalizing them with last place finishes for both drivers, I decided to simply carry their picks over from the previous week.
I believe this is the fairest thing to do. Please let me know if anybody has any "heartburn" over this.

Congrats to both DFootCuda (FABO) and Back in Time (FABO) for getting the weekly low net score of -1.5. Good picking!
Congrats to Mopar Momma (FABO) for being the only player to pick the All-Star Race winner, #11 Denny Hamlin, and picking up the -5 bonus points for the race winner pick.
Back in Time (FABO), Budnicks (FBBO), cuda20 (FABO), Dart_Doctor (FABO), fishmens67 (FABO), kazooom (FABO), MoparDaddy (FABO), moparfan68 (FABO), and ocdart (FABO) all picked race runner-up #4 Kevin Harvick and each got -3 bonus points.
Mopar Momma (FABO) was the only player to get the -1 bonus point for the Pole pick with her pick of #11 Denny Hamlin.
All-Star Race segment winner bonuses of -1 points were earned by those picking the following drivers:
Segment 1 - #5 Kasey Kahne
Segment 2 - #2 Brad Keselowski
Segment 3 - #2 Brad Keselowski
Segment 4 - #41 Kurt Busch

No winner in our game since nobody picked him.

Harvick was a player 4th, allot of laps lead, overall good race,
my other pick Logano 9th was running about 10th {give or take} the whole race
but Edwards was in the right place at the right time, at the end...

barely leading, but ok showing

It does count...if he wins the pole.
LOL

My original race pics were Harvick and Johnson, but I changed to Harvick and Hamlin just before the start of the race thinking Hamlin needs a win more than Johnson does.
That's what I get for thinking!

How did i miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

I think that you can still get in, you'll be way behind in points or penalized possibly,
HELL it's just for fun really anyway,
It helps give us Mopar fans at-least something else to rout for...
