Build the poly, When I open my hood everyone asks, "is that a 440"? Nice conversation piece. Here's mine

If having extra parts on hand would make you feel better, I'm in PA and have a complete running poly in the ad section for $150. Other parts as well. Is it an auto? You can keep the push button trans but will have to swap the shaft and front pump to use a more modern torque converter. You should also install a sprag while you're in there so basically a full rebuild.

Al heads????

When I had my poly What I heard a lot was-

"Of course you beat my 350, you have a 440- it says so right on your fender after comet, er, uh cornet, uh IT SAYS 440!"

Even though it had the tiny 2 barrel, manifolds, and single exhaust, and thier cars were all tricked out with chrome everywhere, 4 barrels and headers!

I painted the heads with aluminum engine paint. alot of people have asked if they are aluminum. I don't believe anyone makes AL heads for the poly. The steel heads can be ported well and built to support the 402 stroker for a good chunk of change.

If its being driven from co to ny and makes it allright i wouldn't worry about it. A 64 poly head engine has solid lifters, you can try adjusting them and see if the noise goes away. The only thing low zinc oil may do is give you a flat cam lobe and a cam and lifters can be replaced. If you want to swap the 73 engine in it will bolt in but the 73 engine is a cast crank externaly balanced engine the 64 is a steel crank internal balanced engine so the 64 torque converter will need balance weights welded on or use a flex plate with the balance weights otherwise you will have some vibration. Keep the 64 transmission its a good 727 with a rear pump.
