383 Engine rebuild

For the OP, remember that longer duration cams need higher C Ratios to run good, in my experience. I removed the stock cam, and put a 509 cam in a 77 low compression 440, and it slowed down! Also had a 10 to 1 440, put a 292 duration cam in there, ran ho hum. Then I put the same top end and cam, on a 413 with dome pistons, 13 to 1, and that thing ran great! The 509 likes compression, and gears. The 509 also ran really good in my 451, at 13 to 1.

Had the 284/484 in my last 440 with 906 heads, what a turd that was. Sounded great though

i took off 3/4lb from the piston and rod of each cylinder in the 440 in my 65 dodge with modern parts. what do you think the effect of that would have been in 1995?

The "stock" PSMCDR 6bbl cars are running 115 mph for a reason.

I would be int in reading about their builds. Where could I find that?
Not a lot of readily available info that I'm aware of. But between the approval of the use of Bob k's cam as a acceptable replacement, and simply reading the rule book can shed a lot of light on what they likely do.

road runner 4spd car I bought new in '68. I specifically remember that the more I cammed the worse it ran; on the street and track.

After each new cam: :praying:

After the new cam and a few passes at the track ::cursin:

FWIW, I don’t know that I feel the 272/455-112 cam is the best choice in a 383.
Sure, it would be “fine”, but I think you could find something that had a little more mid-range punch.
Especially considering it’s getting headers and will have a 4 speed.

after every step-up in cam the car ran worse vs the crower 201hj, but this was a streeter 99% of the time. as for the OP's car i'd do the 280/.480 with headers. if it was mine i'd do the 282/.495.
