Its a good thing it didn't start. That thing is bone dry all over. Took the oil pan off and started pounding the Pistons out. They are all seized in the cylinders from sitting and from the PO spraying the crap out of it with starting fluid. Some of the rods are difficult to move on the piston pins. I have 4 out and need to rotate the crank to expose the other cap bolts. No how to do that.
The rods where they connect to the crank are nice and oiled and easy to get apart. Found a random nut in the oil pan.
I cut about a 10 inch piece of a broomstick handle and used a 2 1/2 pound hammer to bang out the The Pistons. The broomstick handle was completely splintered and broken after four.
The rod bearings I do have out look good and the surface of the crank still looks nice and polished. There were a couple bearings that had a darker wear Mark to one side of them but nothing looks Burnt or blue.

I remember that, and the smell. How stock are going to go? I'd assume the crank, block, rods, heads (unless you have $ to spend on a new set) at least. After the machine work on those parts, if you have some $ to spend you can get new pistons and cam/valve train. Unless it's bone stock, getting new(er) internal parts (with a lil oomph) with updated manufacturing might be worth considering. You can do all the bolt on stuff later as you're able.

Thank you Larry. I will take some of that into consideration.
So I'm removing the crank and noticing that the crank bearings, at least the first two, have pretty good grooves in them. The crank doesn't look as bad and only feels slightly rough. I'm assuming this is not normal.

Not normal, get it ground, polished and balanced. Doing all the machine work is the best investment you can make for your motor. After that would be updating things like some engine components, ignition, electrical, the list could never end.. Namely things you could do to bring your car into the 21st century, operating better than it could 40+ years ago with what is currently available. It would make your car more enjoyable once your back on the road.

Dropped off the block and all engine parts. Basically for labor to clean and bore block, clean the heads, check valves, grind the crank, check rods, all the basic stuff is $1300. Then I can purchase what ever else I need.
